How do you have Ebay settings or get notifications?

It seems like some people on the boards know something about Ebay that I don't. How do you have "settings" and "get notifications"? Can Ebay always be searching for specific keywords for you? There are several items (actually not video game related) that I would like to have set for myself in this way. Any help appreciated and please comment on how and if it is worth the effort.
