chairmonkey4406
I think it would be cool to mod an XBOX. What can I do with a modded one? Is it worth the money/work?

Artlover
I gave a friend a modded xbox and we installed linux on it, and now have it running by itself in a corner hosting a paintball server. Bums me out tho that most pawn shops and places are still asking for $120 & up for a used xbox. Grrrrrr.

Clock
I have a modded Xbox and although I don't really understand all it does I can tell you what I do know, Multi region games - allows you to import games and they work. Multi region DVD player - no official DVD playback kit req. Backup games to HDD - They load quicker Emulators - Play N64, Snes, Atari 2600, Mame etc etc Run Linux - So you can surf the net or any other crap it does. Run hacked games - Halo with altered graphics/physics or DOAX naked patch etc Home brews - play Xbox home brews I'm sure there is lots more but I'm surprisingly unknowledgable on this subject. Hyper_Eye
I have a modded XBox and I do a number of things with it. First of all, you can get on live. Most current modchips have the ability to disable the chip implemented using software. What this means is that when you install your new dashboard (most people will install evox) you can add a menu entry that will let you disable the mod chip. I get on live like this all the time. Another thing is getting banned is no longer an issue. Since the new Xecuter bios xbox live is now blocked when the chip is enabled. If you install the newest xecuter bios and configure evox to disable your mod you will not get banned and you will be able to play on live. As far as what you can do with it... here are a few things I do with it: Play emulators Play movies (I stream divx and xvids from one of my computers to the XBox over the network.) Stream music, movies, and pictures. Surf the web Run Linux Play imports Play homebrews Use trainers and hacks to change your gaming experience There are so many things you can do with it I can't even get into it all. All I can say is that it was well worth it.

Rocko
I think it would be cool to mod an XBOX. What can I do with a modded one? Is it worth the money/work? You can do what I am going to do, exploit it. You cant go on live (well, you can, but you need a patch) and you dont need a mod chip. I did alot of research (and asked alot of questions, read the "burning Xbox games" thread.) You can do alot. Period.

Actually most of the games we have on our hard drive we own, or one of 2 other people we swap games with owns. So I guess we "pir8" games, but we still spend a ton of money on games. I don't dl movies, I'd rather have the DVDS. But it is really convenient to put movies on the hard drive when we go on vacation, so we don't have to cart them around. Same with the games. I have a modded Xbox and I have approx 140 games in my collection - not copies, not pirates but original games in their original cases with their original manuals. How much money have I cost MS by having a modded Xbox? The've done very well out of me thankyou very much.
PuddWakkr
movies on the xbox are best converted to divx. that way it takes up only a few hundred MB instead of 4-7 GB. I prefer Vidomi to make converting easy.
