Draikar #1 Posted May 4, 2004 I just got some games and one of the games was the CD Jaguar game DRAGON'S LAIR and WOW it sooo SUCKS in the bad way to extreme !!! It was kinda like a Sega CD game, more like a movie but this was more like a cartoon with less movement !..!.. I don't think these kinda movie games ever did well since the only ones like these are early CD games but this is a topic of its own I guess...
JagMX #2 Posted May 4, 2004 These types of games used to cool in the arcades many years ago, Dragons Lair and Space Ace i think were the very first 2 (correct me if anyone must ) i enjoy these games, Dragons Lair 1&2, Space Ace, Braindead 13 anda few others varied. They play flawlessly on the cd-i but i still love em on the jag. all in all i think the jag's version were prettygood - definitly better than the 3DO's version consdering 3DO's would freeze for a second or 2 after every scene
Draikar #3 Posted May 4, 2004 Maybe this game is fun in the arcades but I could not have fun on my Jag, to slow with movements. I never seen this game in arcades before or any like it but the few times i went i was kinda hammered and was told i spent 75 dollars on one game alone. This game and SPACE ACE were never actually "fun" as much as they were beautiful. Remember - these games came out in the arcade when stuff like the Colecovision and its ilk were on the market. DRAGON'S LAIR was like nothing anyone had seen before. People lined up to play a "moving cartoon" but the game itself was kind of dumb ... just nice to look at in the 1980s. +davidcalgary29 #5 Posted May 4, 2004 I note that the sale price of "Braindead 13" is listed at 130 pounds on the Telegames UK site. It's a fun game, but...
cobracon #6 Posted May 5, 2004 130 pounds for Braindead 13. Ive seen them on ebay for 10 - 20 dollars!
Draikar #7 Posted May 5, 2004 I did not want to dump on this game too much, its just seeing the advertisement made it seem more then it was and was kinda slow on my Jag.... Anyway i was disappointed
Bryan #8 Posted May 5, 2004 Dragon's Lair was released in the arcades in 1983 and it used a bulky, unreliable 12" Laserdisc player to generate all the video. It caused a sensation that led to the rapid-fire release of other (lower-quality) minimally interactive laserdisc based games. These games must be seen in context since they relied more on "wow" factor more than playability. -Bry
Draikar #9 Posted May 5, 2004 This game and SPACE ACE were never actually "fun" as much as they were beautiful. I remembered one game, a john Wayne game that was a real hologram ! You paid about 3 dollars for only about 30 seconds of "draw and shoot" your gun ? Then he said some line and it was over, it had limited game play but the hologram was so real that it would pass for today's market BUT the cost of building this thing cost a lot so hence the high price to play..... This may have been a test market thing too since I never seen it before after I moved to NY.....
Shaggy the Atarian #10 Posted May 5, 2004 I personally thought that Space Ace was the worst of the three interactive cartoon games that came out on the JagCD. Dragon's Lair was ok and Braindead 13 was great. But Space Ace just sucked IMHO, as being unplayable
Tyrant #11 Posted May 5, 2004 Space ace seems to skip for me a lot, which makes playing even more random than normal... ie instead of "can I hit the button at the right moment... its... will the video play the right moment or just skip to the death scene before I've moved?
