Did Sears just relabel Atari games?

Recommended Posts

I was just cleaning some games I found this weekend (spring cleaning has led to a view finds recently after a very dry winter). Anyway, as I was cleaning my Gunslinger cart, I noticed that the bottom edge label was peeling slightly. I partly lifted it and there beneath is an Outlaw label. The top label is the same thing. How common was this practice? It seems like it would be a pain and a waste of labels. My other Sears carts don't have double labels, so maybe it was just an early practice (this Gunslinger is 1978)?

Any comments?

Take care,

RG

I've never sen a relabeled Sears cart like that. It had to have been a case of Atari not making enough Gunslingers for Sears and diverting their other carts.

I checked all my Sears cart and it is the only one with two different labels that I have. Anyone else have a relabled Sears cart? Interesting . . .

For another fascinating :D observation concerning Sears' carts' date=' check out this old thread on "Searsfade" :

hmm... how peculiar. I've noticed that kind of fading on a few of my carts, but strangely enough, I never really gave it much thought. I think I have a blackjack that has the exact same fading as the bowling shown on that thread.

I have a Combat (Note: Not Tank+, but Atari label Combat) with the same effect. The end label is all shiny and red, and there are spots on the side label as well.
