Gregory DG #1 Posted May 5, 2004 I've noticed that EB has had pre-order boxes for the last few weeks (months?)... Anyone pre-order? Anyone have the patience to buy a game several weeks/months before it comes out not having any clue at all when that will be? Anyway, I can't wait to get my hands on it when it does make it out... I don't see the point of pre-ordering unless there is a freebie. I am really looking forward to Doom 3, but I can wait until it comes out.
Saikyo #3 Posted May 5, 2004 I hope that Id releases a demo first though I hardly ever buy until i played! Cant wait for it!, It should be awesome!!
Mr.FoodMonster #4 Posted May 5, 2004 With the Doom 3 preorder you get a little pewter figure. A lot of games have freebies if you preorder them at the right place. I remember recently GameStop had a sign out front that said the free thing you got when preordering, and there was like 15 games on the list.
Gregory DG #5 Posted May 5, 2004 What's the max resolution for the Xbox? I saw a screenshot on IGN that (they claim) was for Xbox and the character was rather rough around the edges... http://media.xbox.ign.com/media/482/482119...mg_2099305.html

I saw a screenshot on IGN that (they claim) was for Xbox and the character was rather rough around the edges... http://media.xbox.ign.com/media/482/482119/img_2099305.html The Xbox can support up to 1080i on an HDTV, but Dragon's Lair 3D is the only game to support that resolution. I'm guessing that Doom 3 will most likely be 480p like most other Xbox games that support HDTV. It might be 720p as there are about twenty or so Xbox games that support that resolution. 480p is 640x480 and 720p is 1280x720.
Clock #7 Posted May 5, 2004 All the Xbox Doom 3 pictures I've seen are certainly not that great, I'm not even excited about this game, much more interested in Halo 2 and Half Life 2.

Doom 3 Just doesn't really interest me all that much right now. I plan to preorder the other two. Besides, its always nice to get free stuff for getting games I already plan to buy. Adrian M #10 Posted May 5, 2004 The XBOX pics of Doom3 (shown thus far) are indeed impressive. Remember that this is a high-spec game running on sub $200 hardware and not some $1,500+ top of the line PC. It's obvious that the game would simply NOT run on any console other than the XBOX. Sorry PS2 and Nintendo fanatics!
Gregory DG #11 Posted May 5, 2004 not some $1' date='500+ top of the line PC.[/quote']You can spend as much as you want on a "top of the line" PC, but I just built a 2.8Ghz for $400.

Sorry PS2 and Nintendo fanatics! how can I put this nicely? whoopity fuck, we have Metroid Prime! About the only thing the xbox version offers is the co-op, and I couldn't care less about that if I tried

jeepnut24 #14 Posted May 5, 2004 Even if you don't like the XBOX, you have to admit, some of the stuff it runs is pretty impressive compared to high end pc's for 10 times the price.
Major Havoc 2049 #15 Posted May 5, 2004 Are there any pics of Half-Life 2 running on an Xbox? I have a feeling that we won't see HL2 on the Xbox this year. I know I'm in the monority here, but I didn't like Half-Life that much. The story just didn't grab me and I cound never get into the nerd scientist who all of a sudden becomes a weapons expert and turns into a bad mofo who kicks arse. Have any of you seen that in-game trailer of Half-Life 2? The one where the main character goes down the elevator and shoots at the big War of the Worlds looking robots with long skinny legs. Anyways, the trailer lasts like five minutes and the main character shoots at the big robots and then gets a weapon that is able to pick up objects and launch them at enemies. Ya, the graphics are killer, but not once during the whole demo does the main character kill anything. Just like the first Half-Life, too much dead time where not much happens. That's my opinion anyways and I know I'm probably in the minority. Doom 3 though, that seems exciting. Edge of your seat, sweaty palms horror and mayhem around every corner. Half-Life 2 = War of the Worlds Doom 3 = Aliens
jeepnut24 #16 Posted May 5, 2004 I could care less about the story of HL2, Doom 3, Halo 2, etc... Its all humans vs. aliens anyway. Im more concerned about game mechanics and playability. If I wanted story, Id read a book, not play video games.

Just a regular guy in extreme circumstances. Kinda like Frodo in LOTR. Have any of you seen that in-game trailer of Half-Life 2? There were several demos/videos that were full screen and were very free-form. Move a barrel in front of a door to block your enemies. Shoot a support cable to drop a beam on your foes. You could knock over stuff that in older games were stationary/static objects. It was all very realistic. HL wasn't a game where you were constantly shooting stuff a la Serious Sam. There is a story-telling element there and a well-known technique for story-telling is building of tension. No doubt HL2 is doing much of the same thing. moycon #24 Posted May 6, 2004 I'm very much looking forward to Doom 3... Although I don't understand the total "outer space" look of the game. I mean damn dont we have enough first person games that take place in this setting? I can name 6 without even begining to think about it. What was wrong with ancient castle like walls, vast courtyards and moats of Dooms past?? Shit we're supposed to be on a trip to hell right? Still, I'll reserve criticism until I get my hands on the controller, but does anyone else feel this way?
Saikyo #25 Posted May 6, 2004 I agree moycon, but maybe half of the game will be in outer space while the second part is in hell! And even if it's not thats what Custom Downloadable maps are there for! (If there is an editor included!)
