CastleVania 3 - need help with the stupid Reaper

I can't remember how to do this! I can beat the reaper, but when he morphs into a giant skull, I get rocked every time. Alucard is my secondary character and no help as far as I can see.

You should play as Trevor. And if my memory is correct you should try enter the room with a bottle of holy water. Use your whip together with this weapon as you stand in the left corner of the room.

I bring Grant along to escape the big skull quickly. That brick Trevor is difficult to maneuver around the blocks of the room, which is a must because after the first form of the Reaper you can't afford any hits.
