Sega Ages #1 Posted May 11, 2004 I just watched an interview with the developer of Joust and Joust II, explaining how he is currently trying to develop a project for a Joust feature film based on the game. He said that the technology has never been available to fulfill his vision until recently. This struck me as quite unusual, and I've started wondering what other unlikely classic games this could happen to. Any favorites you'd like to see at your local multiplex? Name the game, your preferred director, and if you want some character casting suggestions as well.
Joe C. #2 Posted May 11, 2004 If M.U.L.E. were made into a movie, it would become an instant classic. Archon would be an interesting one too.
Trip_Cannon #3 Posted May 11, 2004 I'd pay full price at the theater to see a live action version of Tetris! *edit* I didn't read the rest!! Obviously this would be a complex film and the director would have to work hard to make sure all the pieces fit! (*lame pun insert! ) It would have to be Scorcese and the actors would be: DeNiro as the L-Shape, Josh Harnett at the long piece, and Louie Anderson as the square piece! He said that the technology has never been available to fulfill his vision until recently. Joust: The Movie. There's not much of a story in the game itself, so it would be interesting to see how they'd turn this into a movie. Something like this would require a substantial amount of CG, assuming you're going to have huge ostriches that people are flying about on and jousting with. So I can certainly understand the statement about the technology only recently maturing to allow his vision to bear fruit. I wonder if he was inspired by the Lord of the Rings films. Just curious, where did you see this interview? ..Al

Tempest #10 Posted May 12, 2004 Wasn't there a short animated promotional film done on Dig Dug? I swear I read that somewhere. Tempest
+davidcalgary29 #11 Posted May 12, 2004 Pac-Men: the Fattening of America. I can just see it now: it'd be one of those shrill, well-meaning quasi-documentaries linking our increasingly passive hobbies with ill health. A shoo-in for an oscar nom. SteveW #13 Posted May 12, 2004 Burgertime: The Movie! How about Qix - The Motion Picture? Or Pong 2-The Quickening! Or maybe NE146 would get his wish, and they'd make a movie based on Beat 'Em and Eat 'Em.
