povlok1 #1 Posted May 16, 2004 I recently bought a Crazy Climber table console. It is 98% complete and has no major damage. for those that know me,, I like to recon things.. I was looking at this and thinking of doing a full recon on it.. this would include all new wood laminate installed, the glass replaced or at least polished out to be scratch free, all the black lamenant and plastic courners replaced, the 'leg stand' all straightend out and polished.. basically a MINT shape unit when done,, with new monitor (still iffy on that one, but lets say new) what is top dollar for a mint collectable like this?? I have 300 in it already and fig I will have to put another $100 in it BEFORE a monitor replacemnt.. how much is this worth if I restor ?
EricDeLee #2 Posted May 16, 2004 Got some pics??? I don't think I've seen the cocktail Crazy Climber before. To a Crazy Climber fanatic, it'll sell for a pretty good some. As for it being a cocktail, that adds value. There is a FULL sized machine for sell on ebay for $500. That has 17 bids (by 7 different people). Some things like these have a pretty good chance of getting into a bidding war. Cocktail tables of popular games are generally llike that as well (as long as it is not bootleg boards we are talking about). A great conditioned one SHOULD sell for $500-800 possibly more. But it all depends on the game (I'd never get that much for my Space Invaders cocktail... even though it is in great condition)
povlok1 #3 Posted May 16, 2004 kewl.. I'll get some pics.. its a case were a good cleaning and its still a nice machine as it is.. thats why I was wondering value of restoring it,, If I was to restore it I woudl garantee you it would look almost new.. I figured I would do this if it would be valued at $800,, if its only worth around $500, Ill just give it a good cleaning.. and wont be so fanatical about it. Personally, I love the game;) thats why I bought it.. was one of my all time favs..
Zaxxon #4 Posted May 16, 2004 It's not worth too much work trying to rebuild a cocktail table case. All cocktail tables are basically the same. There's the Namco type, then the other SI/Nintendo type with the metal legs. It's stupid IMO to pay a lot, or put a lot into these when you could buy any cheap-o, non working cocktail, put your CC board, CP, and that little scoresheet under the glass and it's the same thing. EricDeLee #6 Posted May 17, 2004 An original DOES matter for collectors. My Space Invaders cocktail for instance IS a low numbered cocktail. Plus it is the midway cocktail that people seem to like better. Now Crazy Climber is different. It has a flock of people that seem to love this game. I don't think it is reaching cult status like some games (Sinistar, Tempest, etc) but it clearly has a following. I didn't restore mine. It came to me already clean and ready to go. I did change a few dip switch settings, but beyond that... It's running great. If you think the game looks great as is... I'd say just clean it up and test the ebay market. Question: If it is one of your favorite games, why are you wanting to sell it right after you got it?
ATARIPITBULL #7 Posted May 18, 2004 If your tabel top crazy climber, when you have finished restoring it, I would also say around $700.00 or so, my Zaxxon table top came to me in pretty good shape with its manuals and I paid about $300.00 for it and an extra $200.00 to get it flown in to Detroit Metro airport. povlok1 #8 Posted May 18, 2004 Question: If it is one of your favorite games, why are you wanting to sell it right after you got it? I deff dont plan on selling it soon:) , just wondering how involved I should get with it.. its real boarderline.. but it does play fine.. and is no means a eye sore.. just cleaned up and the glass polished would be a huge improvement.. altho redoing the woodgrain lookes EASY, anyone know were to get that laminet at? povlok1 #9 Posted May 18, 2004 funny note to add.. first off,, Im very cramped in my apartment,, mostly because I have about 350 different consoles and 70 pong systems and few thousand games.. etc.. the only room for the crazy climber is the kitchen! lol.. honest to god.. right in the center of the floor.. I plan on takng it down to my basement in time,, but want to enjoy it and work on it up here for now.. I'll get pics soon
ATARIPITBULL #10 Posted May 18, 2004 You were saying that the top glass had scratches in it, so did my Zaxxon, but I went to a local glass company and they made me an exact copy of my glass top for only $40.00 and boy does it look great.

I fig'ed 40-50 bucks either way;)
povlok1 #12 Posted May 18, 2004 the monitor isnt that bad,, has light burn, but you dont notice once game is on.. it is 'squiqly' on the top half inch of the screen until it fully warms up, is this a sign it needs a cap kit? these are cheap, so I planned on putting one in anyway even tho the pic looks pretty good.. I just want to get the pic best as possible;)
