Trip_Cannon #1 Posted May 16, 2004 So what is your vote and why? I'm going to try and list them all but there may be a few I miss... Super Mario Bros. Mortal Kombat... or 2... Street Fighter Wing Commander Final Fantasy: Spirits Within Resident Evil Tomb Raider Pokemon Double Dragon Movies like Tron and Last Star Fighter and most of all The Wizard do not count. TV shows or cartoons do... Captain N? Mega Man? Did I miss any?
Gregory DG #2 Posted May 16, 2004 So, only movies that was a game first and that bears the title of that game? So, WarGames wouldn't count either? (That's probably the best one of all...) I'd have to go with Mortal Kombat 1.
Cootster #3 Posted May 16, 2004 The unfinished "Pong: The Movie" starring Michael J. Fox. After that, maybe Street Fighter, since it's tremendously campy, if nothing else (Raul Julia owned as Bison, shame he died while filming) . . .
Mr.FoodMonster #4 Posted May 17, 2004 While I have a love for most videogame movies (one exception... House of the Dead.... ::pukes:: ) I think the best movie out of all of them is Resident Evil. The plot wasnt terrible, and the movie still understandible if you didnt play the game.
jedijeff #5 Posted May 17, 2004 I liked Final Fantasy.
PaulEMoz #6 Posted May 17, 2004 The House Of The Dead is one you missed. Probably just as well by all accounts!
Towelie #7 Posted May 18, 2004 I have to go with mortal kombat 1. All the acting was great not corny and it had a good blend of action and comedy. Seeing those characters on the big screen lit my eyes up, I still remembering playing Mortal Kombat when it first came out on sega, man was it great. Not only did they get the characters right in this movie, and the way they act, they got there moves down pact too. Each of the special moves correct. Sub-Zero's freeze, Scorpions's 'harpoon', Sonya's scissors, Kano's knife, Shang Tsung's soul getter, and so forth. There choice of words may have come in wrong like the flawless victory (no way was that a flawless victory at the end.) They still did a great job and I throughly enjoyed the movie, I still watch it today a lot from time to time. The best scene had to be when Scorpion & Sub-Zero came through that door for the first time, that scene was executed BEAUTIFULLY, one of the best scenes I have ever scene done in a movie. This movie I give a 9 out of 10. Nothing will ever beat this for video game to movie adaptations.
Kialan #8 Posted May 18, 2004 I liked Super Mario Bros... And Mortal Kombat is good.
Towelie #9 Posted May 18, 2004 Under the catagory of favorite video game turned television show I'll have to go with The Super Mario Brothers Super Show. You'd have to have been born somewhere between the late seventies and early eighties to have fully appreciated Oldschool Nintendo. Even though the major Nintendo stars such as Mario and Link are still with us today, their innocence doesn't hold up any more in a gaming world full of violence and mature themes. I remember watching this show religiously every day after school, during a time of my life when anything Nintendo was sacred. I had the opportunity recently to watch some of the episodes, and found it a fun experience to relive that bit of nostalgia. Even though cartoons have vastly improved over the years, I believe that the episodes still hold up pretty well. Memories of the time I had a crush on Princess Toadstool and Zelda, sang along to the Mario song, and pretended I was Link dueling with bad guys in my back yard seem to come back to me as I watched. The style of the cartoons is outdated in comparison to the superb quality we have today, but if you fit into that age range I mentioned previously, you'll find some great nostalgic value in these cartoons
Xot #10 Posted May 18, 2004 If we're counting the Pokemon movies, clearly, they're the winner in terms of tying into the games and vice versa. And for the most part, they don't completely suck. Other than those, the Mortal Kombat movie was a GOOD MOVIE, not just a good VIDEO GAME movie. Of course, the second one, MK: Annihilation, SUCKED HARDCORE ASS. Cootster #11 Posted May 18, 2004 Under the catagory of favorite video game turned television show I'll have to go with The Super Mario Brothers Super Show. Is this the show with the live-action bits? I loved those, but the cartoons stank on ice . . . Especially Zelda . . . The Zelda cartoon is directly responsible for the horrid CDi game that would have killed the franchise dead if anybody had bought it. The early eighties Donkey Kong cartoon was better, even . . . Dones #16 Posted May 18, 2004 I am suprised no one has mentioned Parasite Eve. I remember watching this japanese movie not too long ago. Anyone seen this? IMO the best vg movie would be Mortal Kombat. It came out around the time where the game was still controversial. I remember reading the movie made profit. I think the movie worked because the characters translated well to the action movie formula. The computer graphics portions were impressive at the time and served to offer panoramic views based loosely on the 2D backgrounds of the game. If you never heard about the game you could still find it entertaining.
Avid Fan #17 Posted May 18, 2004 I think Mortal Kombat wins. Although it is a horrible movie, I love Resident Evil. I dont know why but I watch it whenever its on, and I plan on buying the unrated DVD when it comes out. And Milla in that little red dress
figgler #18 Posted May 19, 2004 What about Ecks vs Sever? I remember hearing that there was some contraversy as to which actually came first, the vid or movie. Interesetingly, the original release of the title has cartoonish drawings of the characters, and I think they released a second with the actual actors... sigma #23 Posted May 20, 2004 Well... there's one.. two and three, actually. While looking for news about the sequal of PoP:SoT, I came across thisThe second bit of news came out of Hollywood, where legendary producer Jerry Bruckheimer has bought the film rights to The Sands of Time. The deal came after an article in Variety reported that negotiations were under way. Speaking to GameSpot at D.I.C.E., Prince of Persia creator Jordan Mechner confirmed that the deal has been finalized and that he will write the script. "To make a movie from the game is coming full circle. I wrote the script of the game to be a great game experience," said Mechner. "Now I leave that behind and will write a script for a great movie." Speaking to Variety earlier, Mechner gave a hint as to what a Prince of Persia film would look like. "Rather than do a straight adaptation, we're taking some cool elements from the game and using them to craft a new story, much as Pirates of the Caribbean did with the theme park ride," said Mechner. and this What do American Pie's Stifler and Soul Calibur's Sophitia have in common? Two words: Warren Zide. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the American Pie and Final Destination producer has purchased the film rights to Namco's fighting game series. While no date has been set, the project will be Zide's first under his new Sony-based production banner, Anthem Pictures. Matthew Rhodes, Noel Vega, and Jesse Warshal will coproduce. While no details were given on the Soul Calibur movie's plot, it is likely it will take elements from the original Dreamcast and arcade game as well as from Soul Calibur II, the arcade, PlayStation 2, Xbox, and GameCube sequel. Both games concern a cast of mighty warriors, lots of brutal hand-to-hand combat, and the all-powerful Soul Edge. and so I don't totally derail the original topic Super Mario Bros. eh, it was okMortal Kombat... This was great. As stated, the characters were transfered well enough to cater to both gamers and the general movie viewing public or 2... Street Fighter It burns! Wing Commander never saw it Final Fantasy: Spirits Within only related to the game by name, but was still pretty good Resident Evil felt like a good book-to-movie film Tomb Raider never saw it, and it will be a cold day in hell if I ever do Pokemon show aside, this was actually ok for what it was Double Dragon once again
Dones #24 Posted May 20, 2004 * jokingly * Imagine a busty, late-teens actress dressed in a white-colored-Xena-uniform busting a guy's parts with a knee kick and saying "I am sorry!". Top hollywood material for sure * jokingly *
Trip_Cannon #25 Posted May 20, 2004 See, I read an article a while back stating that Soul Caliber was being made and it was going to be directed by Sammo Hung and star Jackie Chan. In fact, IMDB still has Sammo Hung listed as the director.. I'm thinking, now there's a movie I can look forward to! But now that I know the genius behind American Pie and Final Destination I'm having my doubts...
