Yie Ar Kung-Fu reservation list (ColecoVision)

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

Well, there has been two months since I released Sky Jaguar for the ColecoVision and the game has reached near 60 copies and sales have almost stopped by now. So it places my whole idea of porting MSX games for the ColecoVision in jeopardy, since it would be too risk to produce a game which will barely pay the bills.

But I thought that maybe if I create a reservation list first, I would wait till I have some 60 pre-orders and just then start production (if we get there).

So guys, I am starting a reservation list for Yie Ar Kung-Fu now. Please send your name, desired number of copies and email address to [email protected] If I am able to get 60 pre-orders, game will produced as usual: cartridge, manual and box. Please keep in mind that if you send me your name, you are aggreing to buy the game when/if it is made available.

Here is what you will get:

The place is ancient China. The time is the end of the Ching Dynasty! The entire kingdom is in turmoil because of the dastardly deeds of the villainous Chop Suey Triad Gang.

In a desperate attempt to eliminate the Chop Suey Triad Gang, the hero of our story, Lee The Kung Fu Master, has secretly entered the Gang's castle headquarters - the dreaded Bamboo-Shoot Pagoda!!

But...once in the castle, LEE has to face the Chop Suey Gang's deadliest martial arts experts and defeat them one after another: Wicked Wang, the quarterstaff (bojutsu) fighter; Terrible Tao, the flame wielder; Chen The Chainfighter; Lady Lang, expert with the razor-sharp throwing knives (shuriken); and finally Wily Wu, the mystery man!!

Will Lee be able to use his Kung Fu techniques to defeat these evil enemies and restore peace to Imperial China?

- A perfect conversion of the popular MSX game.

- Based on the very tweaked Konami build 1.1. Get ready for more challenging matches.

- Challenge 5 different martial arts experts, with different fighting techniques.

- Fighter Lady Lang completely redesigned, based on the Famicom version.

- Perfect your Kung Fu techniques in the special bonus stage.

Yie Ar Kung-Fu will include a offset printed box, manual and label.

UPDATE: this is the same version as the one that got released in Japan for the Famicom, back in 1985, though the MSX version came out first. In fact, since it was released in January 1985, I think it was developed in the same time frame as the famous arcade game, though story and even the characters are different.

Sorry, the editing was greatly slowing down the forum, especially editing of really long posts like your first one above. More information here. This is only temporary.

For all of us who really enjoy ColecoVision games and especially the high quality new releases from OpCode Games, we need to help spread the word. I have already placed my reservation for Yie Ar Kung Fu, and I know many of you will do the same. We need to help OpCode through word of mouth, postings on the various forums that we belong to, articles on web sites that we contribute to etc. Otherwise there may be no more qualtiy ColecoVision games from OpCode :( and none of us wants that to happen! So please do what you can. These are quality games at a reasonable price that I want to see coming from OpCode for a long time!

I think the problem with Sky Jaguar is that it was a relatively unknown arcade game (I had never heard of it). However I think just about every classic gamer has heard of Yei Ar Kung Fu so you shoud probably see better sales.

I'll reserve my copy.

Hi Tempest!

I really don't care if I don't make a single penny. I have so much fun and pleasure releasing them (even more when I see hardcore Atari fans reserving CV games). :)

In other hand, I don't want to "pay" to release games either. So if I sell just 60 copies, it is ok with me. But it would be really bad if I spend a lot of money to produce a game and end selling just 30 copies or so. I would have a lot of problem trying to explain it to my wife.... :D

Even if you have never played this game or ever heard of it, you should visit www.opcodegames.com to see the reviews and the screen shots. I had never heard of it either, but the screen shots looked so appealing that I gave it a try. The game play is outstanding and it is a very challenging game that gets harder and different the longer you play. If you like games like Phoenix, Xevious, Zaxxon, etc. then this game will blow you away! :)

If you are a Classic gaming fan, then you must get each of these releases for the Colecovision. I know there are more then 60 people out there who have Colecovisions, What are you waiting for?? These are high quality releases with the game cart, instructions and a box.

All I can say is sign me up for this and every release you have in the future. If I have to buy multiple copies of each title to keep you releasing them, no problems there. :D

Any plans to release Magic Tree or Ping Pong?

Tempest

Hi Tempest,

Magical Tree will be my constest exclusive game. It was shown at NWCGE last week and maybe Albert will be showing it again this weekend at MGC. So far the only way to win a copy was that Sky Jaguar high score contest, but I am planning many more ways, so don't worry. BTW, I don't think we even shown the nice label Dale Crum created for MT. So take a look in the picture bellow...

About Ping-Pong, it's one of the best MSX1 games available, once you give it a chance. Don't let apparences deceive you. As soon as you master the controls, Ping-Pong will require a lot of strategy and timing and will offer a hell of a good time playing head-to-head. Unfortunately I have never found someone good enough to play against. 8)

Well, lets hope the MSX ports will stay viable. We could have nice things in the end of the string (Gradius or Peguin Adventure anyone)...

Ohhh the pain!!! I was waiting for Magical Tree since you first mentioned it. I hope there is some type of general release for the game. Outstanding label design by Dale Crum.

Hi!

We have 20 names already and a new price: $25! :D

It happens the US dollar has incresed its value here in Brazil, so I can reduce the price a little.

Hi!

I just added a very interesting easter egg to Yie Ar Kung-Fu... Not just some dull hidden screen, but something much more compeling... Lets just say it will double the bang for your buck... :)

Isn't there some app for converting spectrum games to gameboy/colecovision? I want to see the Sentinel (aka Sentry) for Coleco/GB. I'd pay good money for that :-)
