Yie Ar Kung-Fu reservation list (ColecoVision)

Recommended Posts

Didn't we just have a Minigame contest a month ago? Man, I'm getting old ;)

A Colecovision minigame would be a crowd favorite with all the pretty graphics and all :D

Count me in. The easter egg sounds cool.

What is the status of this? I am just curious.. would it cut down on your costs if you were to scrap the high quality boxes and manuals? I know that I would still but a copy if it was just the cart only. Those customized OPCODE cartridge shells alone are cool enough for me. Maybe making some changes that will allow you to reduce your price would help you to get more people signed up for a copy. It would be a damn shame to hear that this one (or any of the other ones you were talking about doing) doesn't get produced.

We have 26 names now... I would be satisfied with 35 names. Both Dale and Jess are working on the package now. I think we could see more people interested once I announce the bonus "game" included with YAKF. I am planning a September release date...

About going cart only, I really don't like the idea. When I was a kid, the first thing I could do after getting a new VCS game was reading through the whole manual, enjoying the box, catalogs and such (even smelling my brand new cart). After I had enough I could finally play it. I keep this strange behavior even today... :)

Beside, Opcode games are a collaborative effort between me, Dale and Jess and I can't imagine releasing anything without their help. In fact I almost paniced last month while trying to contact Dale for two weeks with no success. :) Fortunatelly he shown up a little later. :D

A few years ago a proto version of Video Hustler for the CV shown up thanks to Adam House. That game was created by Konami for the MSX computers (based on an arcade game of the same name) and it seems Coleco was planning to release it before the crash.

Well, so here is the good(?) news: I am including Video Hustler with Yie Ar Kung-Fu. But I didn't just attach the old binary in. I ported the European version of that game, called Billiards, which is basicly the same game but with a better menu system, a different title screen (obviously) and a few bugs corrected. While I couldn't recommend a purchase just because Billiards, I think it is a fun little game, and a nice addition to any collection.

In the meantime, I finally created a new ColecoVision cartridge PCB supporting 4KB of extra RAM. It will debut with my next one, Road Fighter, but it is already allowing me to create some interesting experiments, like the one in the screenshot bellow. Of course I still need a memory mapper with that one, but it's already a good start. ;)

Oh yeah! As the current world record holder for the ColecoVision prototype Video Huster, I can say this is a VERY nice addition! :) Especially with this being a better version. Video Hustler (or Billiards) is definately a fun little game. Just like playing pool on a real table, the game is a lot more interesting the better you get! I was already anxious for Yie Ar Kung-Fu, then the Easter Egg, but now knowing that the Easter Egg is Billiards I want my game today!!! I will be reserving a copy of Gradius as well...

Hi!

Ok, the good news is: Yie Ar Kung-Fu is now confirmed! :)

The bad news is we will need to wait a month or two while Dale and Jess put the final touches on the game package. But hey, I am sure we will get another top notch work from them. :D

Any plans to release Magic Tree or Ping Pong?

Tempest

About Ping-Pong, it's one of the best MSX1 games available, once you give it a chance. Don't let apparences deceive you. As soon as you master the controls, Ping-Pong will require a lot of strategy and timing and will offer a hell of a good time playing head-to-head. Unfortunately I have never found someone good enough to play against.

I am a tennis table fan and love this game on amstrad cpc 6128...

when does this game will be available?

Not sure if it even will. People haven't been very interested on this one.

What bugs were those? I played around with Video Hustler and it looked pretty complete.

Just minor bugs, like subtle graphic glitches (take a close look at the table's top right corner and you will see it) and "branchs" pointing to the middle of an instruction. Looks like Konami used a not very trustable compiler. :)

In fact a corrected and expanded several things in each game. Yie Ar Kung-Fu has a completely revamped fighter, Lang. In the original version this female fighter was ugly like hell. Let me see if I can find a screenshot here....

OK, here it is... The top row shows the original MSX Lang and the bottom row shows the revamped CV Lang.

Why does "she" look so slim now

Because she now looks like Star from the arcade version.

She was quite the chunky monkey before wasn't she? :D

To pre-order do we just post to this thread??

This sounds like a game I'd be interested in purchasing.

Well, Opcode games are a join venture between me, Dale and Jess. Yie Ar Kung-Fu programming was completed some time ago, and Jess has already done his homework too. So I am now just waiting for Dale, who is working on the artwork. I talked to him a few days ago and he told me he is facing a lot of challenges in his personal life, so I think we'll to wait a little more. :)

The good news is there is a small chance to see Pac-Man Collection released later this year....
