UPDATE: October 10th

Since Dale is still working on the Yie Ar Kung-Fu package, I am taking the change to improve the game a little bit.

Here are screenshots from the last build:

Hi there!

I am taking the change to improve the game a little bit.

Why not continue the brick wall from the bottom on top as well? Might give it a more consistent look. :)

Greetings,

Manuel

Hi Manuel,

Well, the green blocks at the top are supposed to look like a roof, while the new bricks at the bottom give the idea of a staircase. So I think the new scenery better resembles a temple.

There is a major reason to make it that way: it's now closer to the Famicom version graphic wise. The Famicom version of Yie Ar Kung-Fu was released about 3 months after the MSX version, and Konami added several improvements. In fact the Famicom ROM is labeled version 1.4. And since the Famicom version came out later, I am supposing that was the improvements Konami wanted to see added to the original game. Since I am trying to keep true to the original developer's vision, I decided to include the changes here.

So far I have included 4 major features from the Famicom version:

- Increased difficult level

- Changed 4th fighter (Lang) graphics

- Changed scenery graphics

- Changed Lee graphics a bit

The screenshot bellow shows the differences between the MSX version, Famicom version and the new CV version (from top to bottom respectively). All snapshots are from the 4th stage (Lady Lang).

Personally I like the life meters at the top of the screen. That's where I'm used to seeing them.

Remember to keep your mind retro, young padawan. Clear of contemporary references it must be. Contemporaneity leads to pain, pain leads to suffering, suffering leads to the dark side. ;)

Please try both version and tell me which one you think is easier to keep track of the life meter... :)
