Sega Ages #1 Posted May 19, 2004 Initial impressions of Chronicles of Riddick for Xbox are feeding through, and it appears to be rock solid in terms of story, atmosphere, visuals and gameplay. Let's take this opportunity to gaze back upon videogaming history, to remember other great movie-to-game licenses. Contrary to popular opinion, there have actually been some good ones. I'll start us off... Star Wars (arcade, Atari) Robocop (arcade, Data East) Alien 3: The Gun (arcade, Sega) Goldeneye (N64, Rare)
jeepnut24 #2 Posted May 19, 2004 Movie = Terrible Games most of the time. Matrix??? Terminator??? Starsky and Hutch??? Alias Dark Angel Etc... There are more terrible movie games than there are great. Come to think of it, the only two great movie -> games are Goldeneye and KOTOR. Tron was good too though. Same with Tron for PC. Gregory DG #3 Posted May 19, 2004 There were some good Star Trek games, but there were even more sucky ones.
SteveW #4 Posted May 19, 2004 I always liked Robocop 3D on the Amiga. When others were playing Wolfenstein 3D on their PCs with low rez graphics, I was playing Robocop 3D with unshaded polygon 3D characters and environments. Alien vs. Predator on the Jaguar was a combination of two movies, and it was absolutely freakin' incredible. One of my favorite games of all time. Avid Fan #5 Posted May 19, 2004 I'm surprised nobody mention the EA Lord of the RIngs games, they f'ing rock. Spider-Man is good too, but the desing and control was before the movie. They make a lot of quality Star Wars games (Tie Fighter, Rogue Squadron) Indiana Jones and the Last Cruesade, the point N click adventure was cool I'm a sucker for this type of shit though
ultravi0let #6 Posted May 19, 2004 i'm sorry to say i am a big fan of Pod Racer on the N64..
Clock #8 Posted May 19, 2004 I've been playing Indiana Jones on the Xbox lately and have to report it as a great game to play. It may not show off the Xbox's abilities but the gameplay is fantastic. Another great movie/tv tie in is Batman for the Sinclair Spectrum - fantastic.
liveinabin #9 Posted May 19, 2004 i'm sorry to say i am a big fan of Pod Racer on the N64.. Nothing wrong with that at all. I rate it above Wipeout. In fact, I think that's one of the few instances where the game was, in a lot of ways, better than the film.
liveinabin #10 Posted May 19, 2004 Another great movie/tv tie in is Batman for the Sinclair Spectrum - fantastic. Ah yes, Jon Ritman and Bernie Drummond produced one of the oddest TV tie ins ever there - bit too similar to Head over Heels for me to like both too much but cool all the same. jeepnut24 #11 Posted May 19, 2004 I've been playing Indiana Jones on the Xbox lately and have to report it as a great game to play. It may not show off the Xbox's abilities but the gameplay is fantastic. One of the "sleeper" titles on the XBOX. I love this game, it feels just like one of the movies. figgler #12 Posted May 19, 2004 Hulk was good enough, better than expected anyway. Indiana Jones' Greatest Adventures for SNES is as good as the Super Star Wars games if you like them
jeepnut24 #13 Posted May 19, 2004 Yoda stories is another good one that I forgot. Some of the old VGA Star Trek PC titles were good too. So was the old Indiana Jones PC title.
RARusk #14 Posted May 21, 2004 Been playing around with the "The Chronicles of Riddick" demo and I managed, with the exclusion of the two guards on the catwalk and the four guards in the last big room, to sneak up and break the necks of all of the guards in the demo. Not an easy feat. Definitely getting this title. List of licensed titles that I think were good..... Star Wars - (Arcade) Discs of Tron - (Arcade) Krull - (Arcade) Star Trek: Strategic Operations Simulator - (Arcade) Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom - (Arcade) (also one of my all time favorite games) Road Runner - (Arcade) (another of my all time favorites) Firefox - (Arcade) (last of the great laserdisc games) Red Storm Rising - (Commodore 64) (finished eighth in the Red Storm Rising Ultimate Challenge contest back in 1989) Spy vs. Spy series - (Commodore 64) The Three Stooges - (Commodore Amiga) Goldeneye - (Nintendo 64) (the reason I have a N64) Star Wars: Rogue Squardon - (Nintendo 64) Turok 2: Seeds of Evil - (Nintendo 64) Super Godzilla - (Super Nintendo) (so I'm a big Godzilla fan.....) Hopefullly I can add "The Chronicles of Riddick" to this list.
Foxy Cleopatra #15 Posted May 21, 2004 I'm very excited for Chronicles of Riddick, because Pitch Black is one of my favorite movies and I've been waiting to see the pre-story. Plus the demo we played look really different, I hope the whole game is as impressive! I've been playing Indiana Jones on the Xbox lately and have to report it as a great game to play. It may not show off the Xbox's abilities but the gameplay is fantastic. One of the "sleeper" titles on the XBOX. I love this game, it feels just like one of the movies. I had a lot of fun with the game, but there was some serious choppiness in some scenes that eventually led to the game totally locking up.Even swapping disks didn't seem to make a difference. I had hoped that playing the game directly from the hard drive would help but the glich in the game must have transferred over during the copy because the game froze in the same spot. I did finish it eventually, and you're right jeep, it would have made a fantastic movie.
wilpetty #16 Posted May 21, 2004 Minority Report for the PS2 is pretty good
Major Havoc 2049 #17 Posted May 21, 2004 Aliens(C64) was really good. Raiders of the Lost Ark(Atari 2600) Alien vs. Predator(Jaguar) The Alien vs Predator series(PC) All the Indiana Jones adventure games on 16-bit computers The Star Wars Trilogy(Atari Games, Arcade) The Star Wars Trilogy(SNES) was a side scrolling action blast and had some great Mode 7 levels. The Xwing, Tie Fighter Trilogy(PC) Most of the Indiana Jones, Star Wars and Alien/Predator games are based on the universes they are set in, so that's one reason why I think they are good. All the AVP games are based more on the Darkhorse comics and books, than they are on the movies. If a game tries to follow the movie too closely, then that's when they start to go bad. I usually hate movie based games, because you know how the game is going to end before you even start.

Shortly #21 Posted May 21, 2004 My faves: Krull, both Arcade and 2600 Tron -- arcade Star Wars -- Arcade Alien 3 -- Genesis Aliens -- arcade Ghostbusters -- SMS Raiders of the lost Ark -- 2600 Indiana JOnes and the Temple of Doom -- arcade Firefox -- arcade Star Trek -- arcade The 2600 Krull is probably the most underrated title by Atari for the 2600. I think its lotsa fun!

RARusk #23 Posted May 22, 2004 Broke more necks again tonight in the Riddick demo. Nothing more satisfying than creeping around in the darkness and taking out guards with my bare hands...... "Come out, come out wherever you are you motherf-*CRACK!*" *THUD* Can't wait for June 1. I'll have some fun with this while waiting for GTA: San Andreas to come out. Can't believe I forgot AvP (Jaguar). One of the best games for that system. I also have Aliens for my C64 but I also have the European version created by Electric Dreams that I purchased while living in Germany in the late '80s. Pretty nice but I can't figure out what to do or how to beat it. Even today there is virtually no information on this version of Aliens. I also played Alien 3 on the Commodore Amiga. It is identical to the Genesis version. The Super Nintendo version of Alien 3 is quite different and has better graphics. During my gametesting days at Broderbund Software I had the opportunity to test Licence To Kill on both the Atari ST and C64. It was a pretty decent action game. Can't say the same for the movie though..... And during my all-too-short temp stint at LucasArts Games, I tested Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis- Action Game for the PC, Amiga, and C64. The PC and Amiga versions were decent but the C64 version was bad. I think they canned the C64 one and released the others. I really wanted to work on the Monkey Island games but they wouldn't keep me. Their loss.....
Godzilla #24 Posted May 25, 2004 One that I almost never see mentioned is Alien for the C=64, It was a really unique title, don't even know how to describe it. It's sort of a real time strategy action adventure of some sort or another. Just a real simple overhead view, but it had tons of atmosphere. It was a bargain game at the time, like $10. Atari Last Starfighter (though never released,) produced two AWESOME games, 2600 solaris and a8bit star raiders 2. Having played the xbox demo disc of Riddick, I can say I was really impressed. I'm one of the people who LIKE E.T. and Raiders :-) (2600) 3DO Demolition was damn sweet, Sega CD dune was awesome too. Dreamcast Star Wars Racer was better than the n64 imho :-) you know, although there are many bad, there really are a lot of decent licensed games. Glad to see Robocop 3D get a mention, one of my faves, and the first true modern 3d FPS ever :-) I still love Vectrex Star Trek & the Sega Arcade game & even the 2600 version. All of parkers 2600 star wars games rock, and their spiderman too :-)
Cybergoth #25 Posted May 28, 2004 Hi there! I think Westwoods "Blade Runner" is easily one of the 10 best adventure games ever made. Greetings, Manuel
