Cuttle Cart 2 - Atari 2600 compatible - additional demand?

Recommended Posts

In the Atari 7800 forum there is a post asking if there is demand for more Cuttle Cart 2 units to be produced.

The Cuttle Cart 2, is a multicart with lets you load your own 2600 and 7800 games from a computer onto the cart which holds a MMC flash memory card), and lets you play them from a menu on a standard 7800 system!

I have cross-posted this from the 7800 forum because people in the 2600 world might not be aware that, if a second run is available, it is the only currently available way to purchase a new multicart for running 2600 games on a console.

Here's a direct link to the "want one" page.

I have no relationship with Curt -- I just want there to be enough demand so he will make a second run so I can buy one ;)

I think you mean Chad, as in Chad Schell. ;)

That's right. I had just finished reading about Curt Schilling's pitching performance last night right before I posted and got the names mixed up!

Come on guys, you know you want one.

I know I want one and I can't get one unless enough other people want one too!

I just got mine and it's great. I already have over 1000 2600 Roms loaded into it. I've been playing Empire Strikes Back for days.

If the price is right, I could be interested.  I don't want to see any $150+ prices though.

The original cost was $200, I dont think the second run would be cheaper - just my $0.02.

I think it's a great price for a gamer's and developer's dream. With around 1000 2600 and 7800 games loaded into mine, I figure that's about .20 cents a game. That would have saved my parents a lot of money 25 years ago :D

Meh. Too bad then.

I'll just stick to buying and acquiring the actual carts then. No biggie.

Just to try and offset Adrian's negativity, I'd like to say that I'm perfectly willing to spend $200 on one if and when they become available again. I wish I would have known about this the first time.

IIRC, the price is based upon the time and cost of handcrafting these independantly...breaking even more or less (which means that any "rainy day" ones made would actually not even pay for themselves once sold).

Correct?

Yeah, David Crane gave a good example of this during a talk last CGE. He said that the Activision profit margin was 10% of the production cost due to all the industry competition. Therefore if they overproduced a certain cart by just 10%, they lost all the profit from it.

So they underproduced and were always scrambling to make more once something became a big seller.
