I have it for my MVS cab, play it on Mame on my Xbox and I am still buying it when it comes out this week. Game is worth every penny IMO.

Demo is available on the newest OXM disc. Xbox version is the same as all the other versions - meaning it's great as well. I'll be beating up Starscream and taking his copy off of him.

I played it on the demo disc from the new Xbox magazine issue. Its what you expect....a completely pefect version of Metal Slug.

Its kind of weird playing it on the Xbox. One minute I'm playing Halo and then the next a 2D 1990's style arcade game.

I love it though and wish there were more 2D games. I'll be picking it up when it comes out.

I was playing the Demo at the store and it's so cool for some reason. Seems like a GBA game, but on a console. It's nice to see 2D games can still live on despite what Sony is trying to do to it.

I have just about all the Metal Slugs on my Neo Geo MVS system (just missing MS5...I'll get that eventually). They're great games, though I personally find MS1 and MS4 to be my favorites....MS3 is good, but the end stage just drags on.

Well worth a purchase if you've never really played it before.

I'll be honest. I have never played Metal Slug before in my life. And had never heard about it until I started collecting. But I tried the demo at GS and well, I do like how it is. And this is going on my buy list. I'll keep an eye out for it and watch it closely. Is it really hard I wonder?

I'm sorry to hear that. You've been missing out since the series debuted in 1995. Better late than never I guess.

The game is hard, as are most of the Slugs in general. On the MVS, you have the ability to continue as much as you need (which does detract from the game I might add), but from what I'm hearing, the XBOX version has a cap on the # of continues allocated to you. Sadly, many mainstreamers will write this off as a bad game simply because its 2D and difficult.

Finally, another person who loved Slug 4 :P

Slug 5 is awesome though...I like the more metal/hard rock sound of the music in the game, and the final boss is wacky. Best of all, my girl Eri is back in action.

Yes, to me, Metal Slug 4 is more of a "back to basics" installment. Levels are shorter, enemies are primarily human, and the soundtrack is perfect! Granted they reused some backgrounds, but who cares? What's there is good!

The whole "MS4 sucks" attitude is part of the reason why I found myself getting out of the Neo Geo scene...while the games were great, the drama of the scene is too much. :|

This might sound like a stupid question but keep in mind this is from someone who has never played ANY version of Metal Slug:

Is this game one player or two player co-op?

(The reason I ask is, the blurb on Gamestop.com says something about it taking the gameplay invented in Contra to the ultimate level)

Both. You can play the game solo or play together with a friend co-op style (similar to Contra).

Gamestop.com is actually right for a change...the MS series has taken the gameplay invented in Contra (and countless other side scrollers) to the ultimate level. Try it out...you won't be disappointed.

Metal Slug X is here on the PS1, so that's worth checking out, or you could get yourself in one of the large arcades in London. I'd say 3 and X are the best in the series, but neither are a patch on Gunstar Hereos.

Gunstar Heroes is yet another overrated Treasure developed title. While good, in no way does it eclipse ANY of the Metal Slug games.

Metal Slug series > Gunstar Heroes

There is a difference, and to me it's pretty significant. When you continue you start again at the beginning of the stage! Kind of makes the limited continues a lot harder... They shoulda just kept it where you continue from the spot you were at. That's the way all MS's were.

Still an excellent game. I can't believe there are those of you who have never tried Metal Slug. It's Contra. It's Gunstar Heroes. All turned up to 11. DON'T forget to turn on the blood too :P

He can legally play it for 24 hours. Who would deny themselves such a great great game?

Sure, but 9 times out of 10 people don't delete the game after the 24 hour period is up.

Not that I think this is necessarily right or wrong, but the whole "24 hour" thing is pretty bogus... there's nowhere in copyright law that makes infringement OK as long as it's under 24 hours.

I just bring this up in the sense of the speed limit... in the eyes of the law, emulating a game you don't own is "wrong". It's up to you to decide your actions based on that. :D

(to clarify, I mean everyone knows what the speed limit is... and then you make a decision how fast to drive)

And for the record, the Metal Slug series are some of the best.games.ever. :) I imported MS3 for the PS2 (it came out in Japan last year) and love it. I may still pick up the Xbox version when the price drops. (Hey, I paid almost $70 after shipping for MS3 last year, I can wait to get cut a break.. ;)
