colecovision switcher

Recommended Posts

I get a real crappy fading signal out of my colecovision to the point where I can almost see nothing. I opened the system up desoldered that metal plate and now I am wondering how can I open that metal box towards the back, The metal box has that little switch on it to change from channel three to four. Any thoughts?

well now that I know I have totally fucked up my coleco and it never has any chance of being useable again I ask who wants the power cord and the two controllers? maybe we can make a trade or something.

Colecovision systems in general aren't as reliable as othr systems from 20+ years ago. They tend to have picture problems and other issues. If you have the black controllers I would be interested in them as long as they work. I only have one Colecovision controller right now.

Huh? I've never encountered a Colecovision where the RF box was any more difficult to take apart than to flip the lid off of it. I don't even use a tool, I just grab and pull.

It's also possible with two parts (a capacitor and a choke) and less than half an hour's work to convert it to work with a Nintendo/Sega RF switch for even better video output.

But the repair that will really help is to desolder the power switch, take it apart, clean it with isopropyl, repack it with grease (I use "dielectric grease" from an auto parts store), then solder it back. As far as I know, the original grease in pretty close to 100% of the existing switches has turned to gunk and long ago stopped performing its function of keeping the switch contacts from oxidizing.

CV tended to have more trouble than most other consoles. Aside from the dirty power switch, blown RAM and controller port often ruins any CV enthausists' day.
