Who are the Pac-Man ghosts?!

Recommended Posts

Ok, the second animation in the original Pac-Man shows a ghosts costume being ripped open. Yeah, it's a little weird looking! So what the hell is underneath the costume? I mean, it looks skin colored! Is it a person?!

Well, keep in mind that the Pac-Man coin op cabinet art depics Pac-Man as a weird red-eyed two legged creature, when in fact he does not actually have legs in the game.

The ghosts are probably just litte legged aliens who wear capes.

Yeah! And the ghosts look freakish too! The first one they have mouths! And on Ms. Pac-Man they look like a cross between casper and the wolf from Tex Avery cartoons! That ghost looks like it's ready to give Ms. Pac a little sumpin' sumpin!

Also keep in mind... although commonly refered to as 'ghosts'... they are actually called MONSTERS. :ponder:

So apparently these things are monsters of some sort. I think it mentions them as monsters on the original instruction cards (on the arcade bezel).

So in reality they're monsters who like to dress in drag.

...or KKK members that don't know how to seperate their wash ;)

But yeah, "wafers", "power pellets", "vitamins", and "ghosts" are the stuff of the 2600 version (vs. the arcade's "dots", "energizers", "targets/fruits", and "monsters").

Oh gees! You just gave me an idea for a new version of pac-man! However, I don't know how well it would go over! :ponder:

Doesn't anyone remember the uproar this issue caused?
