Final Fight Series

Recommended Posts

Does anyone else like these games? I've been really into FF 1 and 2 lately and just recently discovered Mighty Final Fight for NES, which is sort of like the "Pocket Fighter" version. But I must say I can't get enough of this side scrolling beat em up action. Any mayor that kicks ass like Hagar, umm.. kicks ass!

I do enjoy Final Fight, but only the arcade version.

In fact, I actually bought myself the arcade PCB to play at home.

The SNES version of FF1 (FF2 and FF3 aren't anything special) is seriously lacking. Not only is it missing an entire stage, but the play control is slightly off, the sounds are different and the number of on-screen enemies is limited to 3.

I love the sega cd version of final fight, and still play it to this day.

dreamcast beats of rage is a nice modern day successor, especially with all the mods available.

I enjoy the Final Fight series too! It lost its magic a little quick because I thought of it as a slightly improved Double Dragon. I generally like the some of Capcom's themed successors more like Aliens Vs. Predator and the Punisher. Those were great!

Mighty Final Fight is a good game. It's surprising for me to see Capcom delivering a final fight game with "pocket" style characters for the NES. AFAIK it was released around the last years of the NES. It's a bit short and a tad repetitive but it's nice.

Personally I think the best version of the SNES games is Final Fight 3 (followed by FF1 and FF2 being the worst). It's the one with the best graphics and has more characters. The game also runs faster and it allows you to play cooperatively with a friend. The music isn't great but then again the Final Fight series was never known to have memorable (leave Streets of Rage to take that title :-).

The ff series is excellent. Imho the Snes japanese version of FF1 is the best home incarnation of the lot. At least my sega cd version looks kinda lame, Fun to play though.

Mighty final fight is excellent on the fami, Not sure whether this was released in 72 pin version for pal and ntsc??

I wonder why it seems common that fans site Final Fight 2 as being the worst or "least best" of the series :ponder: I'm having a lot of fun with this game these days. The graphics are much improved and the characters are more interesting (Plus there's 3 of them). This is clearly better than FF 1, on Super Nintendo at least

I love the 1st Final Fight. I'm not too picky on which version of FF1, I haven't played any of the others except FF2 on SNES, and while the game play was fine, I actually did not like the fact that you got unlimited continues as that ensures victory assuming you keep the system on that long...it takes all of the challange out of it....

I may try the NES version and possibly FF3. The dreamcast game sounds interesting too...

Of that style though, I still think the orignal double dragon on either the arcade or the Genesis is still my favorite.

The other good ones are Final Fight and Streets of Rage (though SOR 2 and 3 are obvious rips of Final Fight just with lesser graphics and better music) The TMNT games were good too, speaking of which, why did the arcade version of X-Men and The Simpsons never come out on a home system?!

Yeah, good question

I like the GBA version of Final Fight. It has the stuff taken out of the SNES version, some good cheats, and Street Fighter Alpha versions of Cody and Guy.

But FF2 doesn't have unlimited continues. At least not on normal mode. It still has way more credits than you'll need though, so you're right about the challenge factor.

I may try the NES version.

I highly recommend doing this, lots of fun

I know the Simpsons came out for the PC and I thought it came out for NES... I could be wrong on the latter..

there were simpsons games on the NES but not the arcade one to my knowledge, b'sides they should'a done it on the 16 bit systems, that'dve been great! And it was built off a successful formula, it and x-men would've been soooo good on the home systems, would've sold like hotcakes...

I'm not so sure. Around the time when the XMEN and Simpsons games arrived in arcades, people and the media (EGM in particular) were already starting to tire of the side-scrolling beat-em up genre. EGM in particular lamented like a bunch of spoiled school children whenever a new side scrolling fighter hit, and this effectively helped a good portion of the game buying public avoid these games, much like they did with the shooter deluge that hit in the 1990's. EGM was done with side scrolling fighters and began to focus on fighting games like SF2. Anything other than SF2-type games then were more or less assigned to the back burner.

The trend continues today.

I remember that we (my brother and I) did not care for the first one very much. It was actually difficult and we couldn't beat level 2. Then the second one was much easer and we could get to the end easily. It was one of our favorates!
