jeepnut24 #26 Posted May 28, 2004 We all know that profits are made on software not hardware. Not to mention LIVE. As for how much if any they loose on each XBOX, that is debatable. Most say little to none on each XBOX. Most seem to forget that HALO 2 hits in November. THe original is still in the top ten after four years, you can imagine how well the sequel will sell.... The XBOX is selling more, because it is finally getting the solid titles that it needs to survive. Has been for almost a year now. As for it being the Dreamcast II well, There is already an XBOX 2 and I don't see sega doing anything other than being bought up.
figgler #27 Posted May 28, 2004 cut retail prices and take a financial hit. Short term losses are meaningless. The only number they are after is on the balence sheet at the end of the year. The losses won't be short term unless they increase the price to compensate . If MS was losing $X on systems before the cut, they are now losing $X + $Y to pass the cut to consumers. They may make up for some losses on sheer volume of sales and hence games sales for those systems sold, but probably not much. They are taking a financial hit long term to peddle the hardware Sorry, but this is twaddle. You cant seperate a cost like that from the rest of a business and cite it as a problem in isolation. Peddling hardware is just the catalyst part of the overall equation which generally equates to a very positive positive. That doesn't negate the fact that the #2 and #3 consoles have to suffer losses on their hardware margins just to say "Look we're the #1 console for 1 or 2 months out of 12!" Even if the catalyst igintes a software fire, they are still employing borderline desperate strategies for a little PR and Sony is laughing all the way
HawgWyld #28 Posted May 28, 2004 Kind of like you prattle on like a grouchy old man about how Windows just about ruined your life? Or was it Microsoft? Or was it Bill Gates? Or was it the Xbox? Holy shit, I have to listen to grumpy old people on the phone all day long, it's nice to see so many future complainers getting their practice in around here. Why, shucks. I'm just glad to help
Stingray #29 Posted May 28, 2004 Wow, one huge global multinational sold more boxes than another. That must be a victory for the people, right? liveinabin- You consistantly give me a good chuckle with your perspective on the whole "system wars" thing. It's good to see at least one other person here feels the same way I do about it. -S
Brad2600 #30 Posted May 28, 2004 I will win the console war! I have *Dr.Evil pose* 1 milion dollars! *evil laugh* Umm...carry on folks. Nothing to see here but delusions of grandeur.
MegaManFan #31 Posted May 28, 2004 Well I'm personally not invested in the "console war" one way or the other, since I own one of each. So one outsells the other, who cares? All I want is the best game for the best system, so whichever console version comes out better is the one I buy when a new game is released unless it's system exclusive (like Halo 2).
