My only issue with The Midwest Classic...

Recommended Posts

Well I'm going next year, it was a wonderful fun event. Very cool, and well planned.

I do have one tiny issue that is nagging at me. It has to do with that beverage called:

Bawls.

Interestingly, the bottle is colored blue.

I heard that advertising for it often appears in video game related magazines, this is what I think my friend mentioned.

So here's the issue.

Is the company attempting to insult gamers in a very hidden way...like an inside joke within the company.

Ok, I'll be blunt. Perhaps they believe that those who are into video games are "nerdy," and therefore the name of their beverage seems to indicate "blue balls," which could be construed as a dig against "anitsocial" gamers who do not have much luck with the opposite sex.

Do you see what I'm saying? Are they insulting gamers in their own sick way? I think it is important to wonder about who they target in their company.

The drink tasted ok, kinda like ginger ale meets mountain dew.

Bawls Guanara has been around for a while. It's been adopted by gamers and software coders because of it's high caffeine content. The same could be said about Mountain Dew. The name 'Bawls' is purely a gimmick to get people's attention. They weren't aiming for the gaming market, gamers adopted it.

I like the stuff. Guarana is a South American berry from the rainforest, and it's got a lot of caffeine. I've heard that it's supposed to be absorbed faster into the bloodstream than regular coffee caffeine. Bawls Guarana has a nice berry fruit flavor. It's just what I need to kickstart me in the morning. But my CompUSA doesn't always carry the 12-packs, and I don't want to pay a crapload for individual bottles in a gas station.

No one in my area sells Bawls, so I've yet to try it, but have wanted to for a few years now. After Josta ceased production I've been without my guarana fix.
