chrisbid #1 Posted May 29, 2004 http://ps2.ign.com/articles/519/519352p1.html It looks like SCEA has changed the plans for the release of the Sega Ages series of games. Instead of games being sold individually for 20 bucks a pop, all the action games (Fantasy Zone, Golden Axe, Monaco GP and Space Harrier) will be bundled together, and next year Phantasy Star I, II, and IV will be bundled as a single package. Im all over the Phantasy Star package, i just hope they do a good job with the translation
SteveW #2 Posted May 30, 2004 Aren't Sega about to release another Phantasy Star Online game soon? I've seen some screenshots of FMV on a game site, but I haven't seen in-game screenshots.
chrisbid #3 Posted May 30, 2004 its probably going to be 2 years before we see the finished product there. in fact, http://phantasystaruniverse.com/ the intro movie says "PSO 2?" and "Phantasy Star V?" so they have yet to officially announce what exactly the game will be. as much as i liked PSO, I think i would love to see Phantasy Star take one shot at a single player RPG with next gen graphics and presentation. mechanized #4 Posted May 30, 2004 I'd prefer to see a PSV myself. The PSO series totally does not interest me, and even less so now that they've hopped on this Card Game bandwagon. On top of that, I don't want to play Phantasy Star with the multiplayer crowd - it's inevitably laden with idiots. I want a fairly immersive experience, people who have a sense of "in character" and aren't interested in discussing statistics and such in public. However, I'd say that the next Final Fantasy game for Online will probably be stellar, once Square Enix has its vision worked out, and makes some more lively settings. Too much of what I've seen was barren, very earth-toned backgrounds and sparse vegetation... and it generally looks like just below what I'd expect their first online outing to look like. But, really.. I don't know what I'm saying entirely, I still play GemStone (text-based, for those who don't know). PSO, while looking stellar, also looks a little chat roomy to me... it's more like the chat rooms of the future with a chewy gaming center than it is a game. And hey, I'm not into the Level Up, Kill Stuff, Level Up play. I've seen way too much of that as it is... That Guild Wars game, now that has my head turned... chrisbid #5 Posted May 30, 2004 in its day, PSO was digital crack. i spent well over 200 hours on my character, going through the same dungeons over and over with new people every time. The whole experience was outstanding, including the visuals, sound, and tie in to the Phantasy Star series. best of all it was free but then the hackers took over, and then the pay servers were established, and frankly after 200+ hours i did get a bit tired of it, but i cant think of any other game in my collection that i have spent that amount of concentrated time on. PSO was the first of its kind on consoles, and i have nothing but good things to say about the experience and the original effort. if the new game is an online game, i hope that maybe this will be the game to tie the two worlds together, and offer a stong offline component that could sit on its own as Phantasy Star V. That would be the ultimate solution. and with all of the advances in online console gaming, i have no doubt that with a brand new engine (not another PSO dreamcast port), Sonic Team can capture lighting in a bottle again. ninjarabbit #6 Posted May 30, 2004 There's already a Phanstay Star Collection for the Gameboy Advance. Get a Gamecube and a Gameboy Player and you're good to go.
chrisbid #7 Posted May 30, 2004 ive got PSC for Gameboy Advance as well as the import version for the Saturn. I also have all four original games. these games are remakes, with updated graphics and other added extras. plus this version will have Phantasy Star IV, which was not included with Phantasy Star Collection for GBA. Susuwatari #8 Posted May 30, 2004 I see Sega decided to skip PSIII for PS2, good riddance.
chrisbid #9 Posted May 31, 2004 phantasy star III was a good idea with sloppy execution, a remake couldve solved those problems and pull it out of the role of the black sheep of the series
mechanized #10 Posted June 1, 2004 Phantasy Star III's problem was that it was weak in the plot department (it was there, just wasn't a strong enough presence and not reinforced or broadened with good frequency) and it could have done well to include some character story development plots and quests. Other than that, it's a pretty stellar game. What story you get is a good story (but it does feel more like an outline of actual events) and the characters are solid enough.
