join Mame + Mess ?

Why not to join Mame + Mess source codes ( are already overlap )

and create the ultimate emulator ?

I am on both the MAME and MESS development teams and I think the biggest reason not to merge them is man power. As things stand right now there is ultimatly one person on each project who does the final integration of all the submissions and makes the final release. Merging the projects would double the work for that person.

 

It's also a convient seperation point to keep the size of the project under control. When changes are made to the core that require changes to all the drivers the two project can proceed independantly.
