Yes a few,

Steel Battalion (Capcom) for obvious reasons - easy to find but few made and very expensive.

Largo Winch (Ubi Soft) - Very rare.

Some fighting game I forgot what it's called now, but it had some religous chanting that caused controversy and was taken off shelves very promptly.

There could be more but I don't know.

Air Force Delta Storm was considered rare at one point in time...shortly after release it was pulled from shelves due to the 9/11 events and was frequently fetching $80+ on eBay. Gamestop recently began selling the game again for about $29.99

Kakuto Chojin is technically out of print, but I still see it for sale at some stores. It's not a particularly good game.

NightCaster II is somewhat rare. I've only seen that title in about 1 or 2 retail stores.

??? I have never heard of this. Are you sure this game exists, OXM has no record of it.

As for other rare stuff, House of the Dead III was threatening to become rare for a while, fetching $50 on ebay, but then they gave it a new production run and you can now get it for about $20 anywhere.

I know it was just released last week, but I hear Metal Slug 3 might be a hard one to find. I was just in Gamestop yesterday and the guy working there said that some people who pre-ordered are still waiting for their copies to come in 'cause there wasn't enough to meet demand.

The company knew there were preorders, right? Don't stores usually order a certain amount? How hard is it to print the disc, make the insert and slap it in a green DVD case? No preordered game should be hard to get a hold of ever. Next you'll see Halo 2 will only have 1000 copies available nationwide. Know how much chaos that would cause?

It's not in any magazine as far as I know although some websites have reviewed it. I know it exists because I have it. I have never seen it for sale anywhere so it must be extremely rare.

Also, Battle Engine Aquila is actually a common game as is NightCaster II - I also own both of those as well.

I know, it doesn't make any sense to me either. It's making me wonder if SNK is actually doing it on purpose...keeping production low when demand is high to create a buzz around their games. It's what Nintendo used to do back in the NES days, but they blamed it on a chip shortage. Yeah right.

Could it be a UK-Only release?

It is Pal and the game is in English and the packaging is also all in English but you can't buy it anywhere. No website (not even Amazon) has ever listed it. It's probably more common in France as that is where it was made.

It's all I can find.

I had a BITCH of a time finding Battle Engine Aquila. But it was worth the hunt :-)

Hehe! Same here, same here!

That is, until recently. Some WalMart stores have gotten a TON of BEA games which they are selling in their bargain bins for $14.88! ;)

So technically it is an unreleased game?

I hadn't even considered that. You could be correct, I just assumed it wasn't produced in big numbers, but even then it should have been on Game retail websites and reviewed in magazines. The only thing that makes me think it is a proper released game is the inclusion of a full instruction manual.

I guess it's possible that Ubi-Soft may have pulled it just before release due to quality standards (it's not a good game). Other Ubi-Soft games have very high production values and just ouze quality, (XIII, Rainbow Six 3, Splinter Cell etc etc)

I would love to know the facts on this title, but even the internet isn't coming up with anything.

Just picked up Metal Slug 3 for the Xbox at my local Electronics Boutique and it was the last copy. The sales clerk said they only got like 3 copies in. SNK probably wasn't sure how the game would sell and probably only released enough to turn a small profit. I'm sure they'll do another production run if demand is high. I wouldn't be surprised if SNK only printed like 25,000 copies of the game. I would bet you can't find MS3 in stores like Wal-Mart or Target. I don't think Dreamcast SNK games were ever available at mass market super stores.

I can find every US released Xbox game with relative ease. I honestly don't think there is a rare US released Xbox game here in NYC. But if there is one, I would think Kabuto Chojin since it was pulled from the shelves and you can only get it used.

So how did you get hold of the game, if you don't mind me asking ;)

Ebay - I've never seen it before or since on eBay but when I saw it I went all out for it.

There is a sticker on the back from a used junk store, so I assume the seller picked it up from there.

Its a game that plays very similar to Broken Sword 3

Steel Battalion is only available used and it was made in very limited numbers so even if it is currently easy to get second hand, it comes at a premium and is still rare.

I am pretty sure Steel Battalion was "reissued" when Line of Contact was released - identical to the first release(supposedly) in every regard and available new for the substantial 200$ pricetag (with controller).

Best Buy, Gamestop, EBgames, lots of places online listed it (not to mention ordering it direct) and that was only a month or so ago? I know I saw one in a Tucson Gamestop in April(new) - because i was actually tempted :)

Yes it was reissued but again in very very limited numbers, but it's not identical although operation is. The re-issued controller is slightly more robust in contruction and also has blue buttons instead of green. Here in the UK they sold out before release (all pre-orders) so I imagine the US must have sold out by now.

I can't confirm actual figures as Capcom has never announced them afaik. But I have heard rumours of anywhere between 3000 and 9000 worldwide. That is very small.

Ok I dont know anything about the X-Box version of Largo Winch but I do know that

a game of the same name was released on the PSone (PAL Exclusive?)

Any way if it is a PAL Exclusive that could explain why its so rare and why

most people here havent heard about it.

Also the PSone version was rather common however I cant seem to find a copy now! :ponder:

Hope this info was useful in any way. ;)

It could be a Pal exclusive, but nobody over this side of the pond has heard of it either!!!

There are actually a few Largo Winch games on other formats, but only this one (if it was officially released) on Xbox.
