khryssun #1 Posted June 5, 2004 Is it me or there are some problems with the Stella mailling list ? I haven't received anything since some days, I tried to post on it some hours ago but I haven't received the message I've posted yet. What about all other stella users ? Is it working for you ? DEBRO #2 Posted June 6, 2004 Is it me or there are some problems with the Stella mailling list ? It's not you...it's [stella]. I sent an e-mail to Russ Perry last week and here is the response I got back. There have been questions as to is [stella] down. Manuel said he posted a message yesterday that never arrived. Yeah, apparently the server went belly up... The guy at Biglist says that mail is still being queued, and it will be released once they've got a new server up and running. Also the archives seem to stop at April. I don't know if anyone has brought this to your attention. I'm pretty sure that's part of the switchover they were in the process are doing, but I'll try to look into that too.
Thomas Jentzsch #3 Posted June 6, 2004 Let's hope the problems are fixed soon, I am already suffering from withdrawal syndromes.
khryssun #4 Posted June 6, 2004 Hi, Thanks for the info. Like Thomas I hope it will come back soon... I Miss it The *good* new is that if all the messages are queued, we should have a lot of stuff to read when they were delivered. Take care, Chris
DEBRO #5 Posted June 7, 2004 Let's hope the problems are fixed soon, I am already suffering from withdrawal syndromes. Me too I'm about done with disassembling Space Jockey and I'd like to get it archived there too.
+SpiceWare #6 Posted June 7, 2004 Been having withdrawls myself Just wondering - I noticed a price list for the service. Who is paying for it?
Paul Slocum #7 Posted June 10, 2004 Any progress on this? Maybe it's time to start looking for a new host for the list. My web hosting account (@ehostpros.com) includes mailing list support and you can get it for only $5 a month. It doesn't include the ability to search the archives, but I use Google to search [stella] anyway. Any other ideas? -paul
DEBRO #8 Posted June 10, 2004 Any progress on this? I sent Russ another e-mail late last night. I haven't heard back from him yet. I'm sure he's getting hammered with a lot of "Where's [stella]?" e-mails right now
DEBRO #9 Posted June 11, 2004 I heard back from Russ and they haven't given him an updated status report so apparently they're still working on the problem They must have crashed pretty hard to still be working on this.
Paul Slocum #10 Posted June 11, 2004 I've created a temporary stella list. I added everyone that's posted multiple times in the last several months. Lurkers can join here: http://qotile.net/mailman/listinfo/stella_...temp_qotile.net -paul
Thomas Jentzsch #11 Posted June 11, 2004 Subscribed! Though I hope this is only temporary and the real [stella] returns soon.
Gateway #12 Posted June 12, 2004 I'm subscribed as well. Thanks, Paul, for setting this up! Thanks also to Russ for his efforts! I learn so much from the posts. I hope it doesn't cost you too much. How much does the original stella list cost per month? Russ and Paul( and anybody else behind the scenes ): You guys are great!
Paul Slocum #13 Posted June 12, 2004 This temporary list is just running on my existing web hosting account for my own webpages, so it doesn't cost me anything. The original [stella] list costs nothing (not sure how we ended up getting it for free) but that's why it's taking a while to get back up. Biglist fixes paying customers first. The service normally starts at $40 a month according to their price guide! -paul
slapdash #14 Posted June 12, 2004 I responded on Paul's list, but I'll also ask here -- if you join and post to Paul's list, please CC in the original Stella. Also, Biglist provides the service gratis, which is good for the pocketbook, but also means restoring the server won't be a big priority. They're also going to be updating to the new software while they do it, which could take longer. Anyway, I hope we'll be back up and running soon, but I don't have an actual date. Thomas Jentzsch #15 Posted June 12, 2004 I responded on Paul's list' date=' but I'll also ask here -- if you join and post to Paul's list, please CC in the original Stella.[/quote'] IMO it would be better if Paul CCed the mails to [stella]. Anyway, I hope we'll be back up and running soon, but I don't have an actual date. But how soon is soon? Days? Weeks?
