Rocko #1 Posted June 6, 2004 How much do they go for, and are either of them color? I saw one on ebay, and it looked good, but I didnt want to buy it just yet (well that and the price) How many of you own them, and are they worth it or should I just get a regular ST? Tempest #2 Posted June 6, 2004 A STacy (depending on the memory configuration) will cost anywhere from $250 to $400. A STBook will cost you $500 and up since they made so few. Tempest

Just for a black and white laptop! Damn, that is expensive (in my book, then agian, $3000 for a laptop is just plain outrageous) What about just a normal ST? What kind of moniter can I use for that? Tempest #4 Posted June 7, 2004 They're expensive because Atari collectors think they're cool and they didn't make many. It's just a regular ST (1040ST?) with a B&W LCD display. It's good for productivity and music programs, but I wouldn't want to play games on it. Tempest

Tempest Yeah, I do want the music programs, but I also want games (not as much, but enough to want color), so that brings me back to post #3 (well, including the first one.) Tempest #6 Posted June 7, 2004 ST's use two different types of monitors. There's a high res monochrome monitor for productivity software (mostly) and a color med/low res monitor. Tempest

Rocko #8 Posted June 7, 2004 Oh, and (stupid no edit) also, are the monitors expensive, or how does it hook up, so I can just get the el cheapo general electronics kind.
Rocko #9 Posted June 7, 2004 How many STs are there (520, 1040, ???, ect) and which one is best?

Tempest #12 Posted June 7, 2004 You can see a good list of monitors at www.backntime.net (go to the ST section and look under peripherals I believe). There are a few monitors, but only one or two common ones. I forget the part numbers right now (STC14??). Tempest
atarianer2003 #13 Posted June 8, 2004 On a Stacy Laptop you can use each Atari and Compatible Monitor on the Monitor Port - The Stacy has all ports of the ST. Stacy is a portable Mega ST. B&W-Monitors of Atari: SM124/125, SM144/146/147 Color-Monitors of Atari: SC1224 (3 different models available), SC1425, SC1435 The ST-Book has only a few ports (Combined ACSI/Floppy, Midi in/out, Mouse, Expansion Port 120pin, Serial and Printer), so you can use no external monitor. And it has no Floppy Disk Drive. The display has no background light, but the contrast is MUCH better than that from the Stacy. I've seen a ST-Book "in action" - only one thing is bad: the vector-pad . Mike
atarianer2003 #14 Posted June 8, 2004 I forgot: the ST-Book was built ~1000 times - I've seen last year one went on eBay.de for 665 Euros. Another portable ST is the Prototype ST-Pad, also called "Stylus" - a Pentop-Computer. I has the same technics as the ST-Book and 2 Cartridge-Ports, each max. 4 MB. Anyone knows how much from the ST-Pad exists? Mike

TXG/MNX #16 Posted June 16, 2004 The ST book is something nice, but it doesn't come with a floppy-drive I never seen one... Also the screen doesn't have a back-light but for the rest it's something nice For serious use with audio just get yourself a cheap 1040STF(M) with monitor or a Falcon030 when you want to have the best  TXG/MNX
eMike #17 Posted June 16, 2004 If you want to have games as well as productivity, look around for a 1040ST
