lkermel #1 Posted June 9, 2004 Hi all !!! Thanks for being so patient. Bold is finally available on my web site !!!! http://www.geocities.com/lkermel Go to Art'Moon, programming, video games and bold. I guess my site is gonna be down quite a lot as I have a limited bandwith with geocities. But just keep trying Don't hesitate to let me know what you think !!!! I have also added a whole documentation on my side and a feedback page... Only the end sequence is missing as the code was broken and my only copy of the source is corrupted But hey ! don't think you'll finish it this week Thanks for being so patient. The next one will be Wiliness. Keep watching

Saikyo #3 Posted June 9, 2004 Nice one and very hard too, only got to level 2 I was totally obliterated. It reminds me slightly of X-Out with the weapon upgrade system. I'm looking forward to Wiliness, cool game dude!

lkermel #8 Posted June 10, 2004 Hi ! First of all, thanks you for your support and feedbacks >Nice one and very hard too, only got to level 2 I was totally obliterated. This is something I've always been worried about, the game is maybe too hard. Let me know if the game is too hard and I will put the difficulty down. This is always really hard for a game maker to judge its own game, I can finish it with all the available lives, but I know it by heart... But I've tried to add some strategy in the game and finishing it is a mix of skills but also judgement as you need to get the best weapons, and not all of them will get you to the end of the game. Like at the beginning of level 2, there is this power up which drops bombs. Think twice before picking it up. It will definitively help you for Lev2 final boss, but it is tricky to use in the energy sphere field... >It reminds me slightly of X-Out with the weapon upgrade system. I read about X-Out but never played it... I'll try to find a copy. cool ! >very nice, I will see if I can ge ta spare machine to show it off at JagFest if you don't mind Of course I don't mind !!! thanks for doing this Don't hesitate to send me feedbacks, even if they are bad... Keep in mind I did this game around 1989/1990 and I was 16 back then... But I don't mind doing tweaks to make it a bit more playable. thanks -Laurent

Maarten Martens #10 Posted June 11, 2004 Laurent, You have got one heck of a nice Resumé ... Seems like fun working for all those big movie companies! Cheers, Grave
eMike #11 Posted June 12, 2004 Why dont you start bringing us new ST games?
Saikyo #12 Posted June 13, 2004 Why dont you start bringing us new ST games? Well as these games that are being released haven't seen the light of day before to anyone else except maybe his freinds, then that's new enough for me. (and surely several other people too) Just wait until all the games have been translated and released, If Laurent feels like it then he'll make more games. But he's probably very busy and this is brilliant that hes releasing these games for us at all!, So just be patient. Remember he doesn't have to do this so just be grateful for what has been released so far. Let's just take it step by step, ok?
lkermel #13 Posted June 13, 2004 Hi all > Why dont you start bringing us new ST games? As Saikyo said, I am releasing my old games just because I didn't want them to be lost... and about bringing new ones ? I'll see... I still have a lot of work to bring the existing ones, and I'll do this first. If I had to write a new game, I'll probably do it for the PC. I still love my Atari ST a lot but I would have much more creativity freedom with today technology. But my new games will definitively be 2D and not 3D Thanks saikyo for your great message > You have got one heck of a nice Resumé ... Seems like fun working for all those big movie companies! Thanks It is indeed a lot of fun, but it can also be really hard, especially when you have to work eight weeks in a row with 4 hours sleep a night, including week ends... but all of this disappear when you see you work on a big screen Some people have been mentioning the speed of Bold and difficulty, please let me know if this is causing a problem... and finally don't hesitate to send me feedbacks to my personal email, I would love to add them to my web site, if you don't mind (have your emails titled "bold" so I know this is for feedback)... Thanks again for your support, you've all been great !!!!
eMike #14 Posted June 14, 2004 The PC has enough games. More ST games!!
lkermel #15 Posted June 20, 2004 Hi all ! I've just released a new version of Bold (v1.1b) with a timer. I've received many emails mentioning this problem, so this should fix it. The game will now always have the same frame rate and won't speed up as it did when using different versions of TOS... Hope this helps -Laurent
Saikyo #16 Posted June 20, 2004 Thanks I'll try it later, As for the rest of you if its alright with Laurent then I'll post the older version here for preservation purposes. Later.
tjlazah #17 Posted June 22, 2004 I tried BOLD on a 520ST, 1040STE and Falcon030 and it worked on the latter but not on the 520ST. Does it require 1MB maybe? Great game BTW!!!
Saikyo #18 Posted June 22, 2004 I tried BOLD on a 520ST, 1040STE and Falcon030 and it worked on the latter but not on the 520ST. Does it require 1MB maybe? Great game BTW!!! Yes it does require the 1Mb add-on chipset so I'm restricted to an emulator when I play!
lkermel #19 Posted June 22, 2004 ooops, Yep I forgot to mention it in this thread, only works with 1024k Ram.. sorry guys ... For the story, Bold always worked with 512k. But in 1990, when I improved the graphics, I added more scenery to the first level so I had to go beyond 512k. But I am sure I can improve things and make it work for 512k again... so maybe I'll release a smaller version one day. Wiliness, the next game I will release, definitively needs 1 Mb... and believe me, it is using all of it !!! thanks again for playing Bold How far have you been ? anyone finished it yet ? tell me ! tell me ! Is the game not too hard ?
lkermel #20 Posted June 23, 2004 One more thing, Someone just mentioned that Bold crashed his hard drive partition on his Falcon. Please, don't install the game on a Falcon Hard Drive until I know what is causing the problem. The game was initially created to work for the ST and I've never done any testing for any other machine. Sorry about this...
MasterMotorola #21 Posted June 24, 2004 How do I play a .ST file on my TT030? I can't wait to try it out! Thanks, Steve
tjlazah #22 Posted June 25, 2004 @MasterMotorola On a real ST: Get ST2DISK and write the game to disk On a PC: Convert ST to MSA and write to disk with ST2DISK or MAKEDISK (May have to boot to a DOS disk to write to disk on Win 2000/XP)
