Adrian M #1 Posted June 9, 2004 Hello friends! I'm currently looking to buy an Apple eMate 300. This is the Newton-based laptop thing that Apple released in the late 1990's and something that I've always found intriguing, being the Newton fan that I am. I prefer that it comes complete with box, but will settle for just the unit and manuals/software providing that the eMate is in great shape. Yes, I can buy one of the many eMates that are listed for sale on eBay, but as always, I will try to support my fellow Atari Age brethren first before going that route! I can either pay outright for the eMate or trade some gaming items for it (or a combination of the two). Makes no difference to me!

Stingray #4 Posted June 9, 2004 Well we found something that we can agree on Adrian! I'm a big Newton fan as well. One of these days I'd like to add an eMate to my collection too. Neat little device, good luck rounding one up. -S

Neat little device' date=' good luck rounding one up. -S[/quote'] I currently have a MP100 and a MP130. Never owned any of the 2000/2100 series Newtons, which is why the eMate is so appealing to me! But yes, I've been a fan of the Newton since they were released and I've been an avid PDA user for nearly 10 years now (though I made the leap to Palm for my general use PDA). SteveW #6 Posted June 9, 2004 I didn't think the eMate 300 was based on the 2000/2100 Newton architecture. Because when I tried downloading software for my eMate, a couple of games designed for the 2100 would run painfully slowly on my eMate. And no, i'm not selling my eMate 300. I'm not even sure where the box and paperwork are anymore.

It's funny, because I could have sworn that the venerable PDA mag, "Pen Computing" classified the eMate as being based on 2000/2100 architecture in their 1998 Newton farewell article. The eMate's processor (ARM 710a) runs at 25 Mhz, while the 2000 utilizes a StrongArm 110 running at 162 Mhz. http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/mess...on_mp_2000.html http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/mess.../emate_300.html

You might try to see if they have any of them left I doubt it but you never know. PM me if you wanna know what highschool and where it is at i don't have the phone number but i am shure you can find it. RD
Voch #9 Posted June 10, 2004 If you're a Newton nut you really need to try to get a 2000/2100 model instead of the eMate. They're much faster and have better handwriting recognition FWIW. My friend had one years ago and it was really pretty nifty. Voch

Voch Of course, I will be adding a 2000/2100 model to my collection sometime in the near future...there seems to be a sudden influx of them on eBay for some reason! But the eMate is something that has always intrigued me which is why its higher on my Newton priority list at the moment. The HW recognition is already pretty decent on my older MP 130, so the thought of even more improved HW recognition is pretty interesting.

awelfle #15 Posted December 15, 2006 (edited) If you still want one, there is an Indianapolis (Indiana) Craigslist user who is selling an eMate minus the AC charger. Here's the link: http://indianapolis.craigslist.org/sys/235688749.html Hey, I have an eMate question myself... Does anyone know if it is in anyway possible to share files between an eMate and an iMac G5? I would very much like to use an eMate for on-the-run word processing, but I want to get the .txt files on to my iMac. Do any of your hacker gurus know how to do that? Please post it or feel free to email me: [email protected] Thanks! -Andy Welfle Edited December 15, 2006 by awelfle
