bergbros2 #1 Posted June 10, 2004 I entered my local EB Store in Wynnewood, PA and another in City Line, Philadelphia and they no longer stocked the Dreamcast games, systems or accessories. Ironically they still were selling the older systems like Genesis, Nintendo 64, Playstation and SNES. They were also stacking large amounts of DVDs in place of the Dreamcast. I understand the move of course. They are making way for the next gen consoles and portables. Still, it is a shame they couldn't retain some space for the system and games. The games take upl ess space than the 64, SNES and Genesis. It seems the only outlet for the DC will be online and no telling how long it will take before prices will start going up. I know some games like Street Fighter Third Strike, Project Justice and Last Blade are commanding hefty premiums. I am glad I was able to get the games that I like while I could at Gamestop and EB for good prices with all the 30% off, buy 2 get one free deals. christianscott27 #3 Posted June 10, 2004 ehh they were'nt much help anyways, asking more than $10 for used dreamcast game is horrible. the sad thing about the dreamcast market, well really the whole playstation fwd used market is that CDs dont survive long in the rough and tumble thrift store/ flea market enviroment. a used loose cart almost always works, its a solid find..but a used loose dreamcast game is scratch city.i cant tell you how many DC games i've seen minus the manual or jewel box, never mind the scratching. i'm telling ya its gonna be much harder to get a good dreamcast collection 5 years from now than it is to get a good SNES collection now. rc #4 Posted June 10, 2004 I don't even bother looking through the DC games at any store. All the good ones are gone and what's left is too expensive. $30 for Soul Calibur? I just picked up the second one for $15. I'll never say the DC was a bad system. But right now it is the least played system I own.
cryptik76 #5 Posted June 10, 2004 I'll never say the DC was a bad system. But right now it is the least played system I own. It used to be the least-played system I own, before I bought Gauntlet Legends.
Adrian M #6 Posted June 10, 2004 I wonder how they plan to honor my 1 year warranty on the used DC system I bought to replace my DEAD original? No big deal I guess...I never use it to begin with!

My two latest are Harvest Moon CIB for the N64 for $10 and Samba De Amigo Complete with maracas for $15.
somePUNK #8 Posted June 10, 2004 yah adrian i had to buy a new x-box to replace mine that went dead, warnty was gone too, i just bought some ps2 games instead. i didn;t make a post in fear of getting flamed by you.
goatdan #9 Posted June 10, 2004 Do you know if all EB's are planning on phasing them out? How I have had it explained to me by one of my friends who is with them is that the Dreamcast as well as NES, SNES and Genesis will be carried in their standalone stores but not in their mall locations. Since the Milwaukee area only has mall locations, that means no Dreamcast's here (or the others for that matter). And as for scratched disks, the Dreamcasts that I have owned and used have been really good about just plowing through them. I can't say that I've found too many disks that are unreadable in my 'Cast, which is completely different than both my PS1, Saturn, NUON and Jag CD when it comes to reading scratched stuff. For the most part, it isn't games but music CDs, although I don't think that should make too much of a difference. My Xbox plows through everything too. rc #10 Posted June 10, 2004 I have a friend that used to work for EB and she told me the same thing. The mall stores ship their classic game trade ins out to the stand alone stores. I think classic gaming is getting more popular now because I haven't seen a good NES or SNES selection anywhere for a long time.
goatdan #11 Posted June 10, 2004 I think that what it comes down to is that mall stores cost more (to rent for the store) so their shelf space is more limited. Devoting a shelf to NES, SNES, Genesis or Dreamcast games that will make the store somewhere between ten cents and a buck per sale is not as good as devoting that same space to new XBox, PS2 or GameCube games that will make the store a lot more than that. liveinabin #12 Posted June 10, 2004 No big problem here. DC games are off the shelves, boys! It's bargain bucket public image has been replaced by it's collectible cult status! Every ebayed DC game can now have "RARE!!!!!!!!!!" in the title (and possibly even "LOOK!!!!" too)
shep #13 Posted June 10, 2004 I'll never say the DC was a bad system. But right now it is the least played system I own. It used to be the least-played system I own' date=' before I bought Gauntlet Legends. [/quote'] I played the PS1 version and thought it was kind of boring. Though I did only play the single player mode. What keeps me busy on the DC are Unreal Tourney with some pals and Bust a move!
Famicoman #14 Posted June 10, 2004 That isn't happening where I live. The Dreamcast section has always taken up 3 smallish shelves by the computer games, and accesories.
Adrian M #15 Posted June 10, 2004 That isn't happening where I live. The Dreamcast section has always taken up 3 smallish shelves by the computer games' date=' and accesories.[/quote'] Give it time. All of the stores, even the non-mall locations in my area have just about liquidated their entire sections. Some do it later than others!
Brad2600 #16 Posted June 10, 2004 Can't find Dreamcast stuff at either EB or Gamestop in this area. I picked up most of the DC wrestling titles I could find so that's about it for my Dreamcast collecting. However, there is a store that carries loads of used DC games and such. Brian R. #17 Posted June 10, 2004 I know the EB store in my local mall no longer carries any DC stuff. As for Gamestop, I've got one near me where I was told a lot of DC stuff from other stores got dumped. I was in another Gamestop recently that still has a little DC stuff - not in a very visible location. What's with charging $13 for a used, scratched game with no booklet AND no case?!??!!??? bergbros2 #18 Posted June 11, 2004 The stores I mentioned are not mall stores. Amazing enough, the EB at the Echelon Mall in Voorhees, New Jersey has a limited quantity of Dreamcast games and accesories. That is the only mall location of both EB and Gamestop that has Dreamcast stuff. There seems to be a movement afoot like the Gamestops of moving Dreamcast to select few stores. I called the Springfield, PA location and they still have a good quantity of Dreamcast games (about 30) as well as St. Davids. With Gamestop no longer accepting trades or buybacks of the NES, SNES, Genesis, N64, will those systems be phased out as well.
Foxy Cleopatra #19 Posted June 11, 2004 I'll never say the DC was a bad system. But right now it is the least played system I own. It used to be the least-played system I own' date=' before I bought Gauntlet Legends. [/quote'] Ours used to be the most-played system, still gets lots of game play. Do you have an Xbox? Gauntlet: Dark Legacy is almost exactly the same, but with added levels. Our local Gamestop is getting rid of everything but the 3 current consoles. They have 1 little cart in the middle of the store with DC, Playstation, Genesis, N64 etc games and accessories on it. It's pretty bare looking with just walls lined with DVD cases essentially.... kind of sad
bergbros2 #20 Posted June 11, 2004 Ebay is always a resource especially for the imports, however, you just can't beat Gamestop when they have the buy 2 get one free with 30% off for dreamcast games. When I purchased the games I made sure the prices were substantially similar. For example I got Bangai-O, Mars Matrix and Street Fighter Double Impact at once because the prices were $12, $13 and $15 respectively at Gamestop. Take 30% off the last two and Bangai-O as a freebie and I paid $19.60 plus tax for three quality games for less than half the price of a current one. Ebay kills you with the shipping and handling which frequently is higher than the cost of the game itself (got Rippin Riders on Ebay for .99, shipping was $4). I also agree with Foxy that it is really sad seeing the motely collection of games that are left- most of them without boxes, instructions, written on, ripped labels, etc. I found EB to generally have games in better condition, however it is criminal the poor condition of the Gameboy stuff in both stores. rc #21 Posted June 11, 2004 I have to admit I'm a sucker for the EB/Gamestop "Buy 2 get 1 free" sales. I almost always pick up 3 $15-20 range games.
bergbros2 #22 Posted June 17, 2004 I stopped in the Westville, New Jersey Gamestop store on the way home from a deposition and they had Dreamcast games selling for 30% off. I picked up Resident Evil 2 for $7 (30% off of $10) and Carrier, a fair to good Resident Evil type game for $4.20 (30% off of $6). Total price- $11.69 with tax. I perused Ebay and a used Resident Evil sold for $28 and someone was selling it new for $35. That in a nutshell is why I will miss EB and Gamestop. You just can't get these prices on Ebay.
