Adrian M #1 Posted June 10, 2004 To be fair, this game is the product of ION STORM AND the issue affects both PC and XBOX. http://xbox.gamespy.com/xbox/thief-deadly-...s/522220p1.html
figgler #2 Posted June 10, 2004 What does this even have to do with either platform? This looks like a developer problem, not hardware.
Lastblade #3 Posted June 10, 2004 It is a bug, you can't blame the system!
oesii #4 Posted June 10, 2004 I think Adrian is projecting, some Sega or Sony game hurt him bad once and now you know the rest of the story Just kidding, I agree has nothing to do with the console or platform at all.
Adrian M #5 Posted June 10, 2004 Well, to be truthful, I was expecting to see posts about this particular topic from the usual anti-XBOX people on these boards. I figured I'd post it and get it over with myself. But, I'm quite pleased to see that some of your realize that this is the fault of ION STORM and not Microsoft! AtariLeaf #6 Posted June 10, 2004 I blame everything on Microsoft. Its convenient, easy, and fun.
NE146 #7 Posted June 10, 2004 Yeah it's just software.. the DaphneX port for xbox can't play Cobra Command for some odd reason even though it can play on the pc version. Is that any reason to xbox bash? I think not
ventrra #8 Posted June 10, 2004 Know what gets me about that article? The game is not Xbox Live enabled, and even if it was, Microsoft has been historically reluctant to set the bad precedent of allowing Xbox games to be patched. I think it sets a worse precedent of leaving games that have major problems unpatched. I mean, on the PC, if a developer patches a game after finding a problem, it seems like they've at least admitted that they screwed up. Here it seems like what's being said is "Console gamers don't care if their game is broken."

cryptik76 #10 Posted June 10, 2004 It saddens me to see that this bug has gotten so much press, because I know it's going to hurt the game's sales. The thing is, until they found out about the bug, even expert Thief players didn't notice that the AI got easier when reloading saved games.
The Eidolon #11 Posted June 10, 2004 To me it sounds like a cautionary tale of letting the PC development attitude (release first, patch later) slip to the console market where bugs are mush less forgiveable. The XBox could be argued to be particularly vulnerable to such a slip, since it is so similar to a PC as to encourage co-release of XBox/PC titles. But no, it obviously doesn't make sence to blame Microsoft for this one. Microsoft has more than it's share of horrendous bugs to answer for without slapping on blame for other developers' mistakes. --The Eidolon
goatdan #12 Posted June 10, 2004 Honestly, that is a bug that I think that any company could have accidentally let through. Yeah, it is too bad that it happened, but the fact is that it isn't something that would be easily noticable in game testing. While it definitely sucks, it isn't something that would have much of an impact on me personally. And Adrian, there is no reason to bash the XBox here. Just because the software that something is running has a bug in it doesn't mean that the hardware or software is any better or worse than anything else. Hell, I've managed to crash games on my Super Nintendo before, but that doesn't make me think anything less of it. On an aside, do you think that Ion Storm might be able to make a patch and push it out via Xbox Live that would fix this? It would set a horrible precendent, but it would be a way that they might be able to use to fix the game for at least some of the people that got it.
AtariLeaf #13 Posted June 10, 2004 You've got him all wrong. Adrian supports Microsoft to a fault, meaning he doesn't find any with them.
Rocko #14 Posted June 10, 2004 The only bug I have found in the game is when the sound craps out for no reason. That sucks (and I have the Xbox version, so no patches!)
Chris++ #15 Posted June 10, 2004 I've never bashed the XBox. It just doesn't happen to have the types of games that I'm interested in, so in the past I've only gotten annoyed with your ceaseless bashing of the PS2. It seems so irrelevant in light of people's differing tastes.

liveinabin #18 Posted June 10, 2004 I don't think there was anything anti Xbox in that article. Just a buggy game and a bit about how no-one likes the idea of patches for Xbox games. The threat of patches for games was always a real worry when it was lauched, being architecturally similar to a PC and having a Hard Drive. Luckily this, for the most part, hasn't happened. No reason to be bashing the Xbox here, perfectly good system, don't want one, but there are lots of other unecessary gadgets I also live without
