Famicoman #1 Posted June 10, 2004 Why does it say NOT FOR RESALE on all the Sonic carts for Genesis? I dont think all the Sonics were promos.
AtariYoungin #2 Posted June 10, 2004 They were pack-ins
Famicoman #3 Posted June 10, 2004 Which means...
AtariYoungin #4 Posted June 10, 2004 Haha, they didn't want you to get the game cheap with the system and sell it for full price at a store later, thus "not for resale"

+-^CrossBow^- #6 Posted June 10, 2004 and on that note...you can actually find the original Sonic the Hedgehog in a non pack in version. They are fairly difficult to find actually because since most people already owned Sonic as the pack in...why buy another one. Kinda like how finding boxed Combat's isn't exactly common. Or boxed SMS/Duckhunt combos for the NES...since that too was a pack in.
figgler #7 Posted June 10, 2004 Same thing with Zelda Colector's Edition for Cube. Manufacturers fear that retailers will jsut remove the game and sell it for $
Famicoman #8 Posted June 10, 2004 Havent seen you in a while crosbow. Oh, and I think you mean SMB/Duck Hunt. Master System confusion happens once more.
+-^CrossBow^- #9 Posted June 10, 2004 Your quite right..I did mean SMB..and not SMS...I was typing rather fast. As the comment on the Zelda collectors disk. I would agree except that even at my own Toys R us..they sell this disk seperate from the packaging for about 39.99 or so. I have also seen it more than once for sale at GameStops here... I actually asked the Toys R Us manager about this..and he stated that Nintendo told them to send back the units that contained the zelda collectors package as it was supposed to be limited and they didn't want anymore out for sale. So Toys R us basically took the games out and sent back the rest...since Nintendo didn't state that the Zelda Game still had to be in the packaging when sent back. So Toys R us took advantage of a loophole. This could very well be what other shops did and are doing. But then, I don't know that any of that was truth...but I wouldn't be surprised. Afterall, Toys R Us and the like will know that without the sets, the games will still sell and they knew that doing this was a way for them to get continued money for a product no longer considered to exist for sale. If Nintendo had made the Zelda versions of the Cube cost just a bit more this likely wouldn't have happened. But since you could buy the Zelda pack in version of the Cube for the same price as the non Zelda pack in version...the retailers weren't gonna lose any money since the products had the same value with and without the game. Sonic, however, was the second pack in for the Genny (the first being Altered Beast). It wasn't until Sonic was proven successful that it became the pack-in. I don't seem to have any trouble finding Sonic 1's or 2's without the "not for resale" tag.

[/quote'] Altered Beast...an excellent introduction to the power of 16-bit gaming back in 1989. I still have fond memories of that game and much prefer it to the Sonic.
