What used to drive you crazy, as a kid, with your Atari 2600

You see I used to chew on the joystick (OUCH!) and eventually the top came off

revealing the white tube inside. :-(

And I did this to all the joysticks except one. :-(

I would chew on those dam controllers too!

:lolblue: :lolblue: ;-)

I have yet to find a joystick in the wild without toothmarks in it... and I owe it all to you two! Geez! :x

:-D Heh, okay, so I'm not so innocent. I chewed on Atari joysticks, tore the innards out of IntvII controllers, busted NES controllers throwing them against the wall...

I suppose what drove me the craziest as a kid was knowing that there was a perfectly good color television in the next room, but I wasn't allowed to play games on it because my dad heard that it would ruin the screen! The game tv was small and the reception was terrible. I remember one time I realized that the picture would come through clearer if I pushed the set over on its backside and played the game like a cocktail table (actually I thought that was kind of cool 8) ). I was playing games in B&W well into my SNES years! :x

Chewing on joysticks? Never did that in my life and didn't know anyone who did that. And I thought people who chewed on pens and pencils were bad. If some kid ever tried to chew on my Atari stuff I would have cracked his skull open.

1. When my original 2600 wouldn't get good enough reception (due to the RF cable) and I couldn't get it to work the way I wanted

2. The joysticks. I never was a fan of them.

The part where the AC Adaptor plugs into the Atari 2600, there was a contact in the console that was loose or something, so you had to plug the connector in just right, the slightest bump or touch would shut it off. It was such a pain in the neck!

Watching ET fall down a pit for the 846th time ... and only been playing it for ten minutes...

2) Games like Haunted house that had a cool looking box, but the game its self was a little less than you expected.

Hear hear... agreed. I was so disappointed by Haunted House, after drooling over the box cover :D
