N64 Controller Colors

Recommended Posts

I got some N64 controllers for the GOAT Store the other day, and I was going to put them up on the Web site but I wanted to figure out what colors there were all made before I did. I searched around online for a very long time, and I couldn't find information on this anywhere! On top of that, there seems like there were a ton of different Nintendo-made colors...

Were these all available boxed by the way? I know that I got a Red, Blue and Yellow one boxed with my system for playing Bond, but I don't know if the clear ones ever were...

Here is what I know of, can anyone help me fill in the blanks:

- Pack in grey

- Solid Red

- Solid Blue

- Solid Yellow

- Solid Green

- Solid Black

- Solid Gold

- Clear Purple

- Clear Green

- Clear Orange

- Clear black ("smoke")

- Pokemon blue / yellow

Is that it? Also, what colors did the systems all come in?

- Original Black

- Pokemon Blue / Yellow

- Clear Green

- Clear Black ("smoke")

- Clear Red

- Gold

Any others?

I keep thinking there was clear green that you listed and then a clear lime or electric yellow color ?

There are 2 different version of clear blue! One is darker, almost midnight blue, it was only available in Japan (separately or with dark blue N645) and other is the more common "Blueberry" And there is a clear neon green (guarranteed to induce puking) called Extreme Green. I have it with its original box but needs a new analog stick. I believe this was Toys R Us only deal.

Sorry I don't remember the name of the other controllers. But there were pack in:

dark green controller was available with DK edition N64 (along with 4MB expansion pak)

Blue/yellow was available only with Pikachu edition N64 (both stand alone version and with Hey You Pikachu pack in)

Atomic (clear purple) was packed in either alone or with grey controller.

Also Gold controller was packed in 2 set to a gold N64 (worth maybe $30-$40 despite what some eBay site claimes, I saw one complete Gold set at Gamestop in Saginaw for $30)

There was a Star Wars edition N64 box with Star Wars Pod Racer packed in, I can't remember what color the controller were.

All the solid coloored controller sold separately were in box (I have black and blue box) and all clear colored controller were sold in a giant anti-shoplifter blister pack. AFAIK grey was sold separately as well but wasn't popular at all. Why N thought grey controller looked good with *black* system is beyond me.

I forgot to mention gold N64 controller were also sold separately as well. Before it was reissued through Toys R Us with Zelda MM, gold controller were selling for nearly $100 a pop! :o

If you choose to have such a custom status, perhaps you should check the spelling. :ponder:

Unfortunately, the N64 and controller that were packed in with Racer were just the usual gray.

I was at Game Dude in Los Angeles about a month ago and I saw a Donkey Kong N64 Controller. It was yellow and painted to look like a bunch of bananas. I would have bought it but it was 14 bucks, a little steep for an N64 controller.

Also, for completeness sake, the semitransparent ones all had specific names for the colors... the dark purple one is Grape, and I think the orange one was Tangerine, although that might be an iMac color. ;)

Dang there were a lot of colors. So let me get this straight with the "clear" ones:

- clear black = "smoke"

- clear green = "jungle green"

- clear blue = "ice"

- clear red = "fire"

- clear purple = "grape"

- clear orange = "tangerine"

Is that all? Were there no clear yellow controllers by the way? I have a yellow original...

I think there's a good reason Nintendo never released clear yellow. It'd have a nickname "piss yellow":lol::lol::lol:

Don't know if this was mentioned, but there was a limited black/gray controller released in Japan probably sold as a special edition with Mario Kart 64.
