KAZ #1 Posted June 15, 2004 Atari 2600 Emulation on MESS! If you would've told me this could happen within my lifetime, I'd have thought you were crazy! Well truly, however, this is very cool. It "used" to work on MESS in a very limited way several months ago. Now they've cleaned up all the menus, and it looks quite nice! One problem I've been having is trying to get my Playstation adapter controller to work on it. My controller works on every other emulator I've ever tried, Mame, Nintendo emulators, SNES emulators, etc. I even had it working in Z26, the Atari 2600 emulator by using a JoyMouse program, that allowed keyboard commands to be executed by the controller. I have NO idea why this procedure isn't working in MESS. I have the controller operating as a keyboard, and it still doesn't work. I made sure to have the default game options checked under ENABLE JOYSTICK INPUT. Any suggestions?
Vic George 2K3 #2 Posted June 19, 2004 I haven't had a problem with my Playstation controller adapter working with MESS. Don't know what to say on that.
KAZ #3 Posted June 19, 2004 Well I figured out the problem. Although I did definitely have the global game options set to joystick input checked, it turns out that for some reason I had to set the joystick input checked on each individual emulator. Like I had to set it for Atari 2600, and then set it again for Nintendo, etc. Maybe that's a bug. Doesn't matter too much, it isn't much of a hassle to do that to each. Albert #4 Posted June 19, 2004 I knew that Atari 2600 emulation has been present in MESS for sometime, and also that it generally hasn't been that great but that it's been improving. However, I have not tried it myself, as I generally stick with z26. How good is the emulation? What games have you tried running? Have you tried some of the newer homebrew games? ..Al
KAZ #5 Posted June 19, 2004 So far I've just tried the standards, like Pacman and Donkey Kong. Enough to convince me that it worked 900 times better than before. Jr. Pac-man worked just now, and that's a big rom, so I'm sure everything is fine with it
incog #6 Posted June 20, 2004 I don't think it has PAL support yet
