What game were you embarrassed to have owned?

Recommended Posts

The only game I'm embarrassed to have is Airlock. I just can't stand that game. :|

Yes, me too. I hated that game and that's one I actually bought with my own money. I wasn't embarrassed to have owned any games, just pissed off because you never knew anything about a game unless you bought it and took it home.

My life in 1983 and half of 1984:

Mow yards for almost no money, take $10, walk 5 miles to K-Bee and buy just about any $7 game there, walk 5 miles back home, put the game in, be disappointed, feel pissed-off and ripped-off. Repeat until summer of 1984. During that time I almost always had buyers remorse then I found out almost 20 years later that most of those marked down games sucked and I never would have been satisfied. Thank God I got some games during that time for as low as 99¢. It helped to ease the pain.

I would not say embarassed to own, but I wished I had not paid for:

 The one and only "PAC-MAN"

  :ponder:

I don't think it's as unplayable awful as people say.

Though I remember REALLY jonesing for Ms Pac Man after seeing a picture in a magazine....

I second that! That game was such a big disappointment, especially after playing Pac Man in the arcades for over a year! The graphics were lousy, as were the sound effects. The fruit was a lousy square (called a Vitamin - whatever!)

Well Custer's Revenge is one that I sold two years ago. Being married with a daughter .. I just didn't want to keep it in my collection anymore. Plus my nephew and his friends were wanting to checking out the collection .. so out it went.

Please note that I am no prude. I do have all the Mystique/ Playaround games on the CC2. :)

I third it! Let's not forget that the dots weren't dots but "wafers." In addition, Pac-Man wasn't even round. He was some kind of oval looking thing. And the color scheme chosen clashes something fierce on some television sets?

Now don't get me wrong. I like to play the game now and then. It's all right. But when I want a real Pac-Man fix, I turn to other systems.

Journey Escape, because I was playing it a few days ago in my game room with a Journey Cd playing on the entertainment system (I was singing along as well), and my roomate walked in and giggled.

I don't think there is much to be embarased about with the bad games. Most regular people will see your collections of strange old games and think you are cool!

I don't think the idea's that there are games you're embarrassed to own now so much as games that you were embarrassed to own "back in the day." Considering most of us owned/played Atari as pre-teens, it's the fear of mockery by friends and classmates- which stings when you're 10- that made cartridges something to possibly hide.

Strawberry Shortcake and the Sesame Street games were both ones that were potentially embarrassing; luckily, my friends knew that I even then had a collector's drive, and that I had the games simply to have them, not to play for entertainment.

Similarly with Barbie on the C64; that was a game that mysteriously no friends ever asked to copy, even when they'd copy *anything* that would boot up.

As stated in other posts .. Cookie Monster Munch is a great game! Hysterical! If Big Bird's Egg Catch used the paddle .. and was faster .. that would be awesome!

Well I wasn't even alive back in the day! But whenever I was about 9 the NES was dying and I was really sad about it. I felt like I was the only person in the world still playing my old nintendo and that was kinda embarassing. Everyone had sold their nintendos and it all just changed so quickly. I guess that's about the same way I feel now, but I don't know if I'll ever come out of this one!

Radar Rat Race on the Commodore 64.

Not that it was a bad game or anything. It's actually a good "Rally X" clone. But did they have to use "Three Blind Mice" for the background music? :?

Methinks they should've licensed Rally X from Namco and left well enough alone.
