Kenwood #1 Posted June 20, 2004 Couple of questions. Thinking about getting back into the NES. What's the audio/video connections? Only RF? Should I only think about a new 72 pin? Any good places?
ApolloBoy #2 Posted June 20, 2004 Couple of questions. Thinking about getting back into the NES. What's the audio/video connections? Only RF? Should I only think about a new 72 pin? Any good places? 1: The front-loading NES has both A/V out and RF out. The top-loading NES only has RF out. 2: You could try cleaning your games and system with a cleaning kit. If that doesn't work, you can go for a new connector. 3: MCM Electronics has 'em (don't know what the web address is, though).
chrisbid #3 Posted June 20, 2004 http://www.mcmelectronics.com they are pretty cheap, if you get a used NES from somebody who didnt replace the connector already, i would go ahead and do it.
Dones #4 Posted June 20, 2004 You can buy 72-pin connectors at ebay. Also be sure to search this forum --- there are many posts on this subject.
Stingray #5 Posted June 21, 2004 A new 72 pin connector is quick and easy to intall so it's a good idea if the system is acting at all flaky. I've had very good luck just removing the old one and giving a good cleaning, along with the area where it attaches to the main board, so you may not even need a new one if you want to spend 45 minutes or so just cleaning up the one you have. THe NES is still a really fun system to own with a ton of great games. It's a worthy addition to any collection. -S
Kenwood #6 Posted June 21, 2004 I don't have a NES anymore, only a SNES. I'd have to start all over again. Here's the thing. I have most of my Favs on the SNES. Mario Series, D.Kong Country Series, Tetris, Sports and Super Punch Out. I went throught the game names and screenshots reviews and I'm just not seeing much beyond a couple of games. I was never into the Nintendo seems to be porting alot of the Classic NES games into the GBA. I've been thinking about just getting them on of the GBA SP. What do you guys think? Chickybaby #7 Posted June 21, 2004 I think I know we have an extra 8bit "toaster" and some games I love my 8bit though have about 160 games for it and play about 30 of them regularly, lol. Playing them on the GBAsp isn't the same and at 20$ a game playing them on NES is much cheaper. Game Stop is clearancing out their NES and EB is having a buy one get one free sale (as far as I know still). So I would go the "classic" route. figgler #8 Posted June 21, 2004 NES is my all time favourite system. So many good games. Chicky's right about going the classic route if possible. I would caution against taking reviews for NES too seriously though, unless you can find reviews from the 80s when the games came out. There are far too many kids raised on PlayStation spreading modern reviews of classic games around. Best thing is to try a few out, go with the certifiable must-haves like Mario, Contra, Turtles 2, Punch Out and Pro Wrestling. The beauty of NES is that the labels are big (if you're a slave to the packaging, this is wonderful) and you can acquire some very seriously great gamplay for relatively cheap. sniperCCJVQ #10 Posted June 21, 2004 Will it accept the All-in-one plug like the SNES? No, you need male-male A/V cable.
