Don't know if these have been posted yet. (Odd controllers)

Recommended Posts

They came out around 1987 with the 7800 in Europe and Australia and were also packaged with the 2600 Jr in Australia around 1990. They're quite rare in North America because they were never released here. BTW, they are official.

And, some people swear by those over the 7800's Proline controller. I didn't much care for the joypads, but I seem to be in the minority there.

I don't much care for the joypads either but at least they're a spot better than the horrid Pro-Lines.

Hi,

Apollo boy is right, I have the same controls on my French and English 2600 jr. and 7800 consoles.

I quite like them actually, they are a bit cheap but still alright (I've never been a big fan of Atari 2600 joysticks, sorry...) . The oddest thing at those little pieces of plastic you can screen in the middle or each cross. So cheap.

I've always heard that the 5200 are terrible because they are non centering. What's so bad about the 7800 sticks? I've been looking at the Prolines all week on ebay.

Oh, they're responsive enough and I don't know that they're generally easily broken. They're just darned uncomfortable to use. It's not so much the sticks themselves that's the problem; it's the cramping your hands around the thing in order to access the fire buttons at the same time. I've actually sold all of mine because I found them so awkward. One of these days I'll run across a NES dogbone controller again and attempt to do a 7800 mod on it.
