Super-Genius! #1 Posted June 23, 2004 I am planning on reproducing all of the Vectrex overlays. They will be EXACTLY like the originals. What I would like to know is what overlays should be reporduced first?? I would appreciate a list of let's say 4 overlays you would like to see reproduced on the first production run.... oesii #4 Posted June 24, 2004 I would buy one for Star Castle. Can't think of any other games I need to get overlays for and I have the complete multicart. I guess if the price is fair enough I would get some more.
holygrailvideogames.com #5 Posted June 24, 2004 Do you have a price in mind for each overlay or for the set of overlays?
EricDeLee #6 Posted June 24, 2004 I'm interested in either getting a whole set of them, or at least learning how to make them. Personal use... not for sale on ePay.
EricDeLee #7 Posted June 24, 2004 Star Castle Bezerk Star Trek Those are the main ones I'd like to see now.
minorleagueguy #8 Posted June 24, 2004 I'd buy a set!!! I have no preference to what overlays are made, just as long as I have them!!!! minorleagueguy
SS #9 Posted June 24, 2004 1. Star Castle 2. Rip Off 3. Armor Attack 4. Space Wars (but only 'cause it's my 2nd fave game on the system, not because it's really a necessity)
christianscott27 #10 Posted June 25, 2004 have you made any test copies yet? it seems like this idea comes up every 6 months and then for one reason or another never takes off, hope you make it!
MrRetroGamer #11 Posted June 26, 2004 There was a guy a while back, Tony Price (mfmurdock) who was doing this, but for some reason he flaked out and ripped a bunch of people off (myself included). There was another guy in Germany that was planning to do overlays, I think Kirim was his name? He actually made some repro Vectrex carrying cases and sold a few, but he too faded out in to oblivion before he got any overlays out. The problem is obviously that you need to make them stiff enough like the originals and the colors have to be accurate. The white part is pretty hard to reproduce with regular printing methods. Hopefully you have a good solution to this. Keep us updated.
Super-Genius! #12 Posted June 26, 2004 To answer are few questions, the overlays will be EXACT. The material will be EXACTLY the same. You will not be able to tell the difference. Anyone who has bought my controller decals knows how perfect those are. The overlays will be equally as perfect. Here are the controller decals: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...item=8114465004 They have actually been selling quite well!! The cutting die for the overlays is a bit high. But, once I get it made, it can be used for all the overlays. I do not have an exact cost for the overlays yet, but it will be less than $20.00. The overlays have a lot of different colors, and that gets into higher costs.... I am making Minestorm first, probably Star Castle second....
