What are the best "Adventure" type games?

As a kid, I REALLY loved the Adventure games: Adventure, Raiders of the Lost Ark, SuperMan, Montezuma's Revenge, Haunted House, Pitfall, HERO, E.T., Ptivate Eye, the lame Swordquest series.

 

What are some other one's?

I guess you could call just about anything an adventure game according to that page, but I only consider games such as Adventure, Superman, and E.T. to be good types of adventure games because you not only go on a quest, but things are in different places each time you play (depending on the variation). To me, if it's not replayable, it's not much of an adventure game.

 

Games such as Pitfall 2 may give you some type of quest, but it's basically the same game every time you play. The treasure is always in the same place and most of the creatures are stupid. All they do is mindlessly move in the same patterns (with a couple of lame exceptions). I like my enemies to know I'm there and to react in some way. I don't know about you, but I hate it when treasure or other items are in the same place each time I play a game (on the Atari 2600 or any other game system or computer).
