What game did you hate soo much, it ended up in the TRASH!

Recommended Posts

As a kid, I was so upset about wasting $30+ bucks on SwordQuest Fireworld, I ended up actually throwing it in the trash. I couldn't even trade the sucker.

What game did you hate soo much, it ended up in the TRASH or other forms of abuse!

Never destroyed a game in my life but I did take at least one game back to the store back then and that was Pitfall 2. A horribly disappointing "adventure game."

How could you?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Pitfall 2 is AWESOME!!!

Me? I wasn't around then so I never threw anything away.

Now, I rip apart games I don't like and turn them into games that I do like with my trusty eprom programmer. ;)

I have never thrown away a single Atari 2600 game ever, but Pac-Man pissed me off more than any other Atari game and I wish my father had never bought it for me as a kid.

:ponder: :!:

I could never throw away anything.. that would break the cardinal rule amongst us packrats.

That being said, having 2600 Jawbreaker in my collection.. I kind of abused that cart because I didn't like how it was "red" and it looked fake to me . So it was often found in various places. Last I found it a couple of years ago, it was under the stairs in a milk crate that was full of magazines. Yes I rescued it out of there. :P

I've never destroyed a game, but I am in agreement with RT on Pitfall II. I absolutely hate it. I traded my original copy back in the day for Air-Sea Battle I think...I had a hell of a lot more fun with Air-Sea Battle.

Not that I would ever throw out any Atari game, but while collecting, I have obtained enough Combat carts that I am going to use them as dring coasters at my next party.

Perhaps even use them to play some sort of 'Jenga' or something. But throw them away? Never.

(Gun to my head though, I would throw out Math Gran Prix :) )

How could you?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Pitfall 2 is AWESOME!!!

It was easy. Here are my reasons:

• If I remember correctly, I finished it the day I bought it and that was it. The game has no replayability, so once it's over, it's over. It's basically the same game every time you play. You can read more about this subject here:

http://www.randomterrain.com/game-design-r...layability.html

• The treasure is always in the same place and that sucks. I hate it when treasure or other items are in the same place each time I play a game (on the Atari 2600 or any other game system or computer).

• Most of the creatures are stupid. All they do is mindlessly move in the same patterns (with a couple of lame exceptions). I like my enemies to know I'm there and to react in some way.

• Save points suck. It's nice that you don't "die" in the game, but making you go all the way back is frustrating and not fun at all. The first Pitfall was better because pro players could go to the right, but novices could go to the left and if they died, they would skip the challenge on that screen. That's a much better way. Pitfall 2 wasn't a step forward, it was a leap back. It influenced games all the way up until today and that stinks. You can read more about this subject here:

http://www.randomterrain.com/game-design-a...restarting.html

Things I liked about it:

• The music is good, but that can get on your nerves after a while.

• It has a nice, professional look. It doesn't look like the game was slapped together in 10 minutes. It looked like someone put a little love and attention into the game.

• It let you do a few extra things such as swim, but it just wasn't enough to save it.

Throw a game away!?

Nonesense. Why, if I ever threw a game away, I think my Atari 2600 would have exploded in protest. If not the 2600, my parents would have exploded. And I can assure you it wouldn't have been out of protest.

To answer the question: none. I've found some merit in every game I've ever owned. Even the stinkers like the SQ series.

Yeah, I suppose even E.T. has it's own unique charm. Although I almost cried when I found out that you're supposed to fall in the holes!

Like pretty much everyone else, I've never actually thrown out any carts, even ones that are "dead." However, I've purposefully abused a few, throwing them across the room when I was a kid after a game ended due to a cheap shot or something.

Circa 1984: I loved Yars Revenge when I'd play it at friends' homes, and I finally picked one up at a local Kay-Bee for a few dollars. It was a lovely package even, with an ultra-thick instruction manual in like 6 languages; the box was one of the multilingual ones. The front cart label had a little "P" in an upper corner, which- unbeknownst to me at the time- meant it was the PAL version. Ran home, plugged it in, watched in horror as the TV screen went haywire... *sigh* So Yar went flying across the room, and I went off to my room to sulk melodramatically.

After that, I made sure to never buy any of the carts in the multilingual boxes (Kay-Bee, Children's Palace, and Toys R Us had them in copious amounts); what PAL carts were doing in America, I'll never know.

This is'nt Atari related but I have to say Space Jam for the Playstation. I keep

everything that I buy, but Space Jam is the only game that I have ever returned to the store(K-Mart). Of course once it was opened they would only trade it for another copy. Got a new shrink-wrapped copy with the store price tag and went to the next closet store and returned it for a refund.

I would never do that. If I did not like a game when I bought it, I would trade it to a friend for a game that I liked more.

Face it, in the early 1980's (prior to the "crash"), Atari games were EXPENSIVE...$40-$60 was not uncommon for a new release. That said, new games were cherished and loved, even if the gameplay sucked.

No game ended up in the trash, not even my ET!

I never really hated a game so much I threw it away. I always found something in a game I liked. Of course some are better than others but I like almost all my games.

Only once I was really disappointed by a game. I was about a year of 9 I think, and I rented a NES game called 'battle of olympus'. Since I was only 9 I didn't understand crap of it, it was waaaaay to hard for me and I kept dying. I started crying and convinced my dad to bring it back and get me another one :)

The other one was turtles II which I really loved and ended up buying :)

Like so many others, I've never thrown a game away (that worked.) I have resold stuff I didn't like (mostly for the PC.)

Every game has a nostalgic and historic value in my book.

Before anyone does anything drastic, instead of throwing games away, give them to me! (I just started collecting a couple of months ago and will take almost anything!)

I seriously hated Apollo Space Chase, this was at a time when I was like 16 or 17 and I was buying my own videogames out of pocket and I plunked down $34.95 for that dud, what a crappy game!

It was games like that, that made me wait for magazine reviews and to look for games with screenshots on the back of the boxes before I'd buy anymore again.

Recently, "blitz pro" came close. I mean, I knew the series has been gradually losing the kinetic arcade feel of the early entries, but that was just a madden lite wannabe....

I never threw out any of my games.

Though I have plenty of games I'd consider stinkers.
