ApolloBoy #1 Posted July 8, 2004 Well, I finally got my Sega CD (a front-loader) to work tonight! I originally expected that one of the motors was dead, but as it turned out, the ribbon cable that connected the CD drive to the BIOS board was disconnected. So I plugged that back in, reassembled the system, plugged in the Genesis, put in a music CD, and it worked!
FireTiger #2 Posted July 8, 2004 Congrats Dr Franken- er wron book. How did that become unplugged? Not as bad as me not hooking the 2nd slave back to my motherboard in my PC once... darn thing wouldn't work w/o power .
ApolloBoy #3 Posted July 8, 2004 How did that become unplugged? I have no idea, the guy I bought it from was an emulator developer, so I think he could have disassembled the system and he probably forgot to plug that ribbon cable in while reassembling it. +-^CrossBow^- #4 Posted July 8, 2004 Actually if I am not mistaken...either that cable..or another can get caught quite easily on the door tray as it opens and closes. I know there is a design flaw in the 1st gen front loader Sega CD unit involving something such as this. However it is an easy fix, and easy to rig to prevent from happening again. Excellent work! I remember hearing about them throwing the tray eject belt a lot.

I don't think it could get caught in the disc tray, the ribbon cable I plugged back in sits very close to the bottom of the system.
