Adrian M #1 Posted July 9, 2004 I've been mildly intrigued by the inexpensive PSO (and v.2) that I bought for my DC a few weeks ago. I'm at about level 12 or so and am getting a bit tired of the main quest and various hunter's guild quests. Is there some way to play the DC versions of PSO online without having to resort to a cheat device or burning some special ISO? I'd like to give this a try. figgler #2 Posted July 9, 2004 I beleive all the DC service is gone, fairly recently too. You could pick this up for your XBox, no?
Adrian M #3 Posted July 9, 2004 I beleive all the DC service is gone, fairly recently too. You could pick this up for your XBox, no? I could, but the trouble with that one is that there's no offline mode for the XBOX version. I've spent a few hours building up my character already and don't really feel like going through the first few hours again.
JB #4 Posted July 9, 2004 Someone was making a new free server. But you need a cheat device to tell PSO to go to it. http://schtserv.funurl.com/
liveinabin #5 Posted July 9, 2004 When you're online and playing with others, it takes you no time at all to reach the level you're at now. Get someone of a much higher level to take you through the first couple of levels, just being there when the dragon is killed is worth 2 or 3 levels alone to you. SteveW #6 Posted July 10, 2004 You have a GameCube also, don't you? The GC version of PSO has an offline mode. In fact, Episode 1 is so amazingly similar to the Dreamcast version, i've been wondering if it's under emulation.

Yeah, I could just fork out $30 for the PSO GC game and track down a modem, but meh. I bought the DC versions for less than $5.00 for the lot, so I was kind of hoping to use those. liveinabin #8 Posted July 11, 2004 While it may indeed be possible to get the DC version online, you probably won't meet anybody. Even the new versions are severely lacking in players now. Shame, I loved DC PSO - but after 2001, there wasn't really much left to do online. I'd never bought a game with a shelf life before.
Ze_ro #9 Posted July 11, 2004 Here's the link you want. It's a PSO server that was made by fans, and seems to be online currently (I don't have PSO, so I can't verify). It claims to work with both of the Dreamcast versions, as well as the PC version. It seems that you need a CodeBreaker in order to convince PSO to actually connect to their server (GameShark won't work, since PSO can detect it I believe). There IS a way to connect to the server without cheating, but it requires you to network your Dreamcast to your computer and do some IP forwarding on the PC side of things. Not exactly for the faint of heart. --Zero

You just need to be online for the Xbox version of PSO when you first start to play the game. Other than that, it is just like the Dreamcast and GC versions, with single player offline and multiplayer online. Playing PSO online with voice communication is sweet. The days of being tied down to a keyboard or symbols is over.

Yah.It won't boot if you don't have Live, butif you DO have Live, it will boot and allow you access to the offline game. Really stupid design decision... And then if you have a hunter's license it'll allow you access to the online part. So you can pay TWICE to get online!

I was having a house built when Xbox PSO first came out and I didn't want to spend all the set up cost to get broadband at my old place, so I was just going to wait to get broadband and Xbox Live when I moved into my new house. Then Best Buy started to run an awesome deal at the time, where if you bought an XB Live kit and PSO, you would get $20 off the combo. I jumped on the deal and then took my Xbox, XB Live kit and PSO over to my friends house who had broadband and then logged in with XB Live and PSO. Took my XB back to my old place and played PSO offline. By the time I moved into my new place I was like level 18 when I started to play online. XB Live is required for PSO though, because you have to register when you first start the game up, otherwise the game won't even start. PSO does cost $8.95 a month, but the first two months are free and you can cancel at any time. Adrian, let me know if you start to play XB PSO, I would like to start playing agian and never spent too much time with ver. 2 and have been jonesing to play PSO agian. Orochi-Nanaki #14 Posted July 12, 2004 The PAL versions of the Dreamcast PSO games are still online to my knowledge. Too bad for people with the US DC versions, as you can't reach the EU servers because the US log-in server no longer exists.

I'll look into getting a copy then. I think I saw a few copies of the XBOX PSO at CompUSA last month in their bargain bin section.
