moderntimes99 #176 Posted January 5, 2005 Hi, just being curious - what is the current status of "Man goes down"? I.e. when is the winning cart design going to be announced? What is the current work on coding - adding music? Etc. etc... Best regards, Moderntimes99
+uosipa llamxew #177 Posted January 5, 2005 The winner was chosen earlier tonight.
StanJr #178 Posted January 5, 2005 what a great idea for a label! Looks awesome, what does the end label look like? Get this game in the store already, I wanna play it on my VCS!!!!
+kisrael #179 Posted January 5, 2005 That is indeed an inspired bit of design. Actually, I'm impressed by the quality of most of the entries. There's some really good design people about.
Albert #180 Posted January 6, 2005 That is indeed an inspired bit of design. I agree, congratulations Nathan! Very unique label, and before Alex decided on a winner, I printed a copy out at the same they'll be applied to carts. You CAN read the text, although you may need to magnify it to make it out. It's right on the edge of being able to read it in good light and if you have good vision. Actually, I'm impressed by the quality of most of the entries. There's some really good design people about. It never ceases to amaze me the quality of submissions we receive for these contests. As I've stated before, I'm glad the decision to pick just a single label doesn't rest with me! There is the possibility of choosing several different winning designs for an upcoming contest, but I can't say any more than that just yet. ..Al
Mayhem #181 Posted January 6, 2005 Btw is the AtariVox supported by the 7800? (or more precisely can I use it in my 7800 with MGD and it'll work fine?) Will the final game be region detecting/switching, or will it have separate carts in the store for NTSC and PAL? Just thought I'd ask... I "used" the AtariVox to earn my Qb Xmas cart so it had better be worth it
+uosipa llamxew #182 Posted January 6, 2005 ... Alex Herbert has written an Atari software driver to make it work on the 2600 / 7800. The AtariVox is a new speech / sound synthesizer by Richard Hutchinson for the Atari 2600 / 7800... I think that you got a really good deal. Qb is an excellent game and the AtariVox looks better than promising! A bargain at 50 bucks! I have only been able to run the demo on my AtariVox so far (no Cuttle Cart), but I am majorly impressed! I can't wait to hear it in action with MGD! :-)
+Nathan Strum #183 Posted January 6, 2005 what a great idea for a label! Looks awesome, what does the end label look like? And thank you all for the kind words! I had fun putting that label together, and I'm really looking forward to the finished game!

Will the final game be region detecting/switching, or will it have separate carts in the store for NTSC and PAL? Yes it works great with the cc2 on the 7800. And the game has 3 regions in 1 cartrige. When you push select it will switch between NTSC, PAL60, and PAL. And the atarivox even tells you what region you are on

Mayhem #186 Posted January 6, 2005 Now that my Atarivox has arrived (though I suspect I will still need a proper cable to connect it to my machine as opposed to trying to fit it on directly) best give this game a whirl F6 bankswitching for CC2 is it? StanJr #187 Posted January 6, 2005 great end label! I can't wait to own this one!
+Nathan Strum #188 Posted January 12, 2005 The new version is great! I've found a couple more of the powerups. There's some nice variety in the platforms later on, too. Neat stuff. Here's my best so far: Beam me up, Scotty!
+Nathan Strum #189 Posted January 12, 2005 Did a little better - 354. Getting killed in the blue zone now. I have a suggestion, power-up-wise. The bubble only seems to kill you, and it's easy to avoid, so it's not really doing much in the game. How about having the bubble allow you to float around the screen, passing through platforms for a limited amount of time? Or maybe replacing it with a bubblegum bubble, that makes you bounce off the walls (and/or platforms) really fast? Might be fun, and possibly useful. bjk7382 #190 Posted January 12, 2005 The newest version is not saving the scores on the eeprom. I have confirmed that it isn't my atarivox and it is the game (since I just downloaded an older version that did save the scores)
+Nathan Strum #191 Posted January 27, 2005 Okay... now I get how the bubble works. You can move the joystick up and down, too. Makes much more sense that way!
StanJr #192 Posted February 17, 2005 what is the hold-up on this baby's release? We have the label design complete. Is it the manual?
Richard H. #193 Posted February 17, 2005 what is the hold-up on this baby's release? Alex is a REAL perfectionist - it'll not be finished until it meets his very high standards That's why his games are so good
Big Player #194 Posted February 17, 2005 what is the hold-up on this baby's release? Sir, I'm going to have to ask you to stop pestering the homebrewers. We all want to play their games, but you need to remember they do this as a hobby as well. I'd rather wait for the polished game. Patience my friend. moderntimes99 #195 Posted April 27, 2005 It is not my intention to pester the programmers of homebrew games (!), but just because the "beta" we have seen of Man Goes Down was so good (good enough to be a release candidate, actually!) it would be interesting to hear if there are any other plans for it and when it's scheduled for release. I guess I'm far from the only one waiting and wondering.... Regards, Moderntimess99
Big Player #196 Posted April 28, 2005 Pester away! It's been two and a half months with nothing. This game is too great to remain unfinished. It's instantly addictive.
moderntimes99 #197 Posted April 28, 2005 It's instantly addictive. 845351[/snapback] Yes, the formula is indeed perfect. Simple and addictive, just as a 2600 game should be. In my opinion it has every chance making it to the "All time Top 10" of Atari 2600 games. Regards, Moderntimes99

Don't get me wrong, I like it, but I've only been able to get on AA for about 15 minutes every other day.
