Finding some feasible arcade ports for the CV...

Recommended Posts

Here are a few CV arcade ports I would like to see (some are not too likely):

Galaga

Bosconian

Moon Patrol

Tempest

Battle Zone

Sinistar

Sorry, but I still can't see where the quote above says Steve is working or worked on a Moon Patrol port.

The messages in DP forum just talk about a port of Lode Runner. When Russ (slapdash) asked about a pix, Will said him that he had [Load Runner] on display during PC4. The most curious thing to me about the above message is that just a few days ago Will posted a message on DP forum saying Steve has ported the MSX version of Lode Runner, not the SG1000 one. Anyway, I am not meaning I don't belive you. If you says he is working on a port of MP, I am sure he is. I am just really curious and would love to see any screenshot. Is there any one online? :)

BTW, nice club. I wasn't aware about it (I suppose you are Pascal, right?). To bad my French isn't good enough to read most of that text. :(

Ops! Sorry opcode, it's my own fault here, and i want to apologize to everybody. It was indeed Lode Runner AND NOT Moon Patrol. Maybe i just read to fast or simply misread your topic. I repeat it's LODE RUNNER AND NOT MOON PATROL.

Hope this will clear the entire thing.

Bosconian is possible as I indicated before. Moon Patrol is also possible. Battle Zone is possible using the newly develop 3D engine we created here (it was used with the MSX so far, but I don't see any problem in using it with the CV either). Tempest is more suitable for the 5200 as it would be almost impossible to the CV to deal with vector graphics and colors at the same time. Now Sinistar, well, I have never played it. From screenshots it looks like Bosconian, so would be possible. In other hand, most Williams machines use a linear framebuffer video, which would make things harder.

Bubble Bubble would end being the most flickering game ever. :)

here is another vote for pengo, i dont think there has ever been a pefect home version of that game

how feasible is zookeeper

i would also like to see Super Mario Bros on the Colecovision. If Coleco hadn't shrivled up, it couldve been the platform for this game in the states

Hmm,how about:

Frogger

Super Pac-Man

Jr.Pac-Man

Pac-'n Pal (not a home version of it yet :) )

Id still like to see Baby Pac-Man somehow worked in a home console...with a reproduction of the pinball table... :( :ponder:

Peter Pak-Rat

Mr.Do! (Opcode,you could do a killer version :D )

maybe even some of the early b&w Atari arcade titles (non vector..)

oops, almost forgot Mario Bros. the original!! 8)

Ok, so far we have the following games/# of votes:

Moon Patrol (4)

Bosconian (4)

Mappy (3)

Pole Position (2)

Pengo (2)

Crush Roller (2)

Wizard of Wor (2)

Galaga (2)

Elevator Action (1)

Xevious (1)

Vanguard (1)

Star Fire/Fire One (1)

Scramble (1)

Gravitar(1)

Marble Madness (1)

Tempest (1)

Battle Zone (1)

Sinistar (1)

Bubble Bobble (1)

Zookeeper (1)

Super Mario Bros (1)

Frogger (1)

Super Pac-Man/Jr Pac-Man/Pac'n Pal (1)

Mr Do! (1)

Mario Bros (1)

Atari B&W (1)

Well, color vector games aren't feasible in my opinion (not without loosing a lot of detail), so it rules out Tempest and Gravitar. Most linear framebuffer based arcades aren't feasible either, so Zookeeper is ruled out for now (well, not exactly impossible, just not very suitable). Some games are just too complex for the poor CV, like those using 16bit or many CPUs, so Marble Madness, Pole Position, Bubble Bobble and Sinistar are rulled out for now (again, not exactly impossible, it's just we have simpler games to deal with for now). And finally, there are a few ones I really don't want to do, like Super Pac-Man/Jr Pac-Man/Pac'n Pal (I am tired of Pac-Men already :) ).

It leaves us with:

Moon Patrol (4)

Bosconian (4)

Mappy (3)

Pengo (2)

Crush Roller (2)

Wizard of Wor (2)

Galaga (2)

Elevator Action (1)

Xevious (1)

Vanguard (1)

Star Fire/Fire One (1)

Scramble (1)

Battle Zone (1)

Super Mario Bros (1)

Frogger (1)

Mr Do! (1)

Mario Bros (1)

Atari B&W (1)

I would add a few suggestions to the above list:

Dig-Dug, Super Breakout/Warlords, Asteroids/Asteroids DX, Missile Command, Turtles, Hyper Olympics (Track & Field), Berzerk, Amidar, Pooyan, Joust, Karate Champ (more?)

And a few others could be done better, like Donkey Kong/DKJr, Popeye, Time Pilot, Front Line, Zaxxon, etc

wavynavy150.gif

wavynavy01.gif

wavynavy02.gif

wavynavy04.gif

I have seen versions for the Apple II and C=64. Would it be possible on the Colecovision?

Any improvements to existing games would be welcomed additions! Preferences in that list:

5) Donkey Kong/DKJr

But to tell you the truth, I would be happy if any of them came out! Some would just make me happier than others! ;)

Nobody's mentioned Guzzler yet? That, IMO, is the best game never to be ported to a home system (to my knowledge).

Others already mentioned that I'd be interested in seeing are Do! Run Run and Elevator Action. Please don't waste any time on Turtles. That game is just... so .

What about the feasibility of Bomb Jack? No scrolling there, either...

Hi there!

@opcode: If you pass me a selection of doable games, I can create a poll for you, right here in this forum.

Greetings,

Manuel

Guzzler?! Had never heard about it, but looks like fun anyway. However it looks suspiciously like Konami's Sparkie, which.... well, that's surprise... ;)

Greetings,

Ok, so let me see...

Moon Patrol

Bosconian

Mappy

Pengo

Crush Roller (remember we already have Steamroller)

Wizard of Wor/Gorf

Galaga

Elevator Action

Xevious

Vanguard

Star Fire/Fire One

Scramble

Mario Bros

Dig-Dug

Super Breakout/Warlords

Asteroids/Asteroids DX

Missile Command

Hyper Olympics (Track & Field)

Berzerk

Amidar

Pooyan

Joust

Karate Champ

Tron/Discs of Tron

Remakes:

Frogger

Mr Do!

Donkey Kong/DKJr

Popeye

Time Pilot

Front Line

Gyruss

Zaxxon

If no other [good] suggestion is launched, we might go with these... :)

I like all the above games, so just pick one and we can start... They will keep me busy for the rest of my life... :)

BTW, 1942 would be possible, but much of the graphic would need to be sacrified and, well, since graphic holds this game together, I don't think it would be a good candidate...

You mentioned Karate Champ, but how about Kung Fu Master? :D

I'd also like to see Locomotion, you know they DID put it in the CV catalog but it never made it to the real world. That would be pretty nice!

Hi there!

Ok... That's ~32 games, so I think it'd be best splitted into 4 polls à 8 games, with a final 5th poll composed out of the best candidates of each poll of the first run.

I will do that the minute you give the "go", so you can still wait a while for further suggestions. :)

(I should mention that I'm not *here* from 16th-19th july, so it should be started before or after that...)

Greetings,

Manuel

Difficult. Scroll, too many big sprites, detailed background...

Really good idea. I think we already have most of the greatest titles from that time, so the "go" is given... ;)
