Cops'n'Robbers

Hi there!

I'm really wondering why Atari never attempted to port that, it looks just sooo doable. Could have been turned into a cool 4-player paddle party game...

Greetings,

Maybe a talented homebrew author could attempt it?

I'll admit I've never heard of the game though.

Good idea! ;)

Hm... how to describe it... it's an Atari arcade from 1976, a game sort of like "Gunfight on Rails". There's two cars on each side, shooting against each other. Here's a MAME shot:

That screen looks simple enough that it could be ported almost exactly to 2600.

symmetrical playfield... 2 identical player image on one side and mirror them for other side (saving a few bytes)... and few colors against black background. The only issue would be the "COPS" and "ROBBERS" on top, 2600 may not be able to do the whole thing. Maybe just a "C" and "R"

So what are the controls for the game? The paddle moves your vertical position? I'm guessing your car stays in its lane.

And then are there obstacles in the center that block your shots? Or is that truck in the center one of the player's cars?

Hi there!

Well' date=' I don't know what controls the cabinet has exactly, but it seems to have two fire buttons, one that moves your car upwards and one to fire a shot. if you don't press the "pedal" button, the car moves downwards.

Then there's another control that lets you adjust the angle of your cannon. (Not sure, isn't M-4 is simpler here, allowing only straight shots?)[/quote']

And then are there obstacles in the center that block your shots? Or is that truck in the center one of the player's cars?

The first. But there'd certainly be room for some nice variants :)

Now that Nova mentioned it, I also remember M-4. Maybe this'd even better suit the 2600...

Greetings,

Manuel
