Gateway to Apshai vs. Temple of Apshai Trilogy

Recommended Posts

I get these 2 mixed up but for palyability the later Epyx release is easier to play and a little more fun IMHO.

The original however has some 'Charm' to it with the Curse of Ra episodes and such.

Trilogy. I grew up with the slower Basic versions, and it was nice to see the old turn-based RPG's updated. And it was easier to control than GTA, since the latter had everything assigned to the function keys.

Hi there!

I'm a still very uncertain about what to think about the trilogy. Maybe because I don't have found a manual so far.

I don't seem to get the point of it. Is there any "higher" goal you have to achieve, or are you just a tomb raider, doing one haul after another?

So for example I find it most irritating that you can choose any of the 12 dungeon levels straight away.

I mean Gateway is easy to understand, you enter a dungeon and have to fight your way down level by level, but in the trilogy it all looks a bit pointless, or what am I missing here? :)

Greetings,

Manuel

The point is the same as pretty much any open-ended game...to amass the most wealth (i.e. points). Since some actions or objects will increase your stats, the secondary objective would be to work on those, I guess. Once all the stats are 18 or above, and you find magical weapons, the game becomes a bit easy...so you could play the game without increasing your stats at all to make it more challenging.

IMO the ultimate goal is to use a computer-generated character to visit every room and collect every treasure in each of the 12 dungeons (monster speed fast). It's not so easy. But on the upside, some of the most lethal characters won't appear unless you set off a trap.

The manual is irrelivant. All it contains is the text descriptions for each of the rooms. The room layout is NOT included (so you'd have to map it yourself anyway).
