Intellivision Dragonfire & Frogger

Recommended Posts

Hi there!

Maybe it's just me, but they seem to compare surprisingly poor against their 2600 counterparts, or?

Greetings,

Manuel

I agree, there were some inty games that really didnt get the treatment they deserve and/or didnt translate well to the disc. Imho, Inty Demon Attack and Atlantis really added a lot above the 2600 versions, tho.

thats due to the limited colors of the intellivision. dragonfire really suffers, though at least on frogger there is no flicker.

id have to add QBert to the list of games that were done quite well on the INTV

Hi there!

Last night I went on playing Intellivision games, trying Pitfall this time and again I wasn't impressed at all.

Wasn't that weird back in the day? There you go, buying the next generation of gaming consoles and all you get is more or less the same, yet less colorful... ?!?

I'm not saying there's anything wrong with the system, I really like the "new" stuff like "Beauty and the Beast" or "The Dreadnaught Factor", but those so-so conversions irritate me...

Greetings,

Manuel

Hi Manuel!

I always marvel at the playability of 2600 Dragonfire.. I can keep playing for a loong time (not on the same game of course ;)) and never get enough of it! I guess it's the challenge about getting perfect timing in the dragon room that makes me come back again and again.

I don't play much 2600 frogger, maybe a little of the Supercharger one which sure looks sweet

Anyway IIRC the Intellivision's kernel used to refresh screen at a much lower rate than we do on the 2600 (I guess it updated every 3 frames), so the games resulted in far less smooth in movements unless you programmed the hardware directly.

And that dial... :D

Also:

Now it's the same, only we get less playability and more colors instead :D

Regards!

Rasty.-

Agreed, Demon Attack on the Intellivision is excellent.

I think Intellivision Demon Attack looks like crap. The mother ship round is good, but the demons are just awful. The 2600 version has far more appeal due to enemy graphics and joystick playability.
