Cybergoth #1 Posted July 15, 2004 Hi there! After work I seem to enjoy those Dungeon Crawler games every once in a while, where you can sit down for a casual hour wandering around, exploring dungeons, killing monsters and such... So far I have played Nox, both Diablos, Throne of Darkness and Dungeon Siege. There's a few newer titles where I'm wondering wether I should try them or not: Neverwinter Nights Morrowind Sacred So, which of these would be like the ones I already enjoyed? Greetings, Manuel
Adrian M #2 Posted July 15, 2004 Morrowind - Definitely! Be prepared to set aside a large chunk of time for this one! I would also suggest Divine Divinity (Diablo clone), and any one of the older Baldur's Gate (and Icewind Dale) games.
cryptik76 #3 Posted July 15, 2004 I would recommend any of the games you mentioned. Morrowind is a little different because the role-playing elements of the game are deeper than in games like Diablo and Dungeon Siege and such. But it's a great game, as is Arx Fatalis if you can find it. Neverwinter Nights is a classic, especially because of all the free mods you can download. Sacred is a very good game, and the game world is absolutely huge, though. A lot of people got burned out, though, by the sheer amount of combat in the game, and the respawning enemies. I've really been enjoying it so far, though. I'm chipping away at it. I'd also recommend Blade & Sword and Divine Divinity. Blade & Sword is more of an action game (even more so than Diablo), and it mostly takes place outdoors, but I love it. Divine Divinity is just a classic. If you buy Beyond Divinity, I believe the original Divine Divinity is included, which is a great deal.
+kisrael #4 Posted July 15, 2004 Hey, given all your other interests, what do you feel about NetHack and its precursor Rogue?
pinball22 #5 Posted July 15, 2004 Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance and Champions of Norrath are a lot of fun if you just want to mindlessly whack monsters and collect treasure.

True words, but wait for the 1.7 update. Will be up next week, we have worked a lot on several things like the combat/respawning issue (for ex. most of the grey enemies won't attack you anymore, so it won't be so anoying running through easy sectors and getting stuck by week enemies). Best, Marc.

Best, Marc. Hi Marc, glad to meet you! I'll have to keep my eyes peeled for the update. The respawning enemies and such don't bother me as much as it has bothered some people. And I'm one of those people who has to explore everything I can before moving on. You guys at Ascaron have done a fine job! I hope Sacred has been successful for you. Black&white #8 Posted July 16, 2004 If you like dungeon crawling theres a korean MMORPG called ragnarok that you can try for 2 weeks free. It is extremely similar to Diablo even going as far as to have the same symbols in the corner for when you level up.
Cybergoth #9 Posted July 16, 2004 Hi there! Hey, given all your other interests, what do you feel about NetHack and its precursor Rogue? I've never played NetHack, but I'm still playing Rogue these days. My favourite is the Amiga version, it plays like a dream Greetings, Manuel

My favourite is the Amiga version, it plays like a dream I'd definately suggest NetHack. The amount of stuff they've put in there, and the number of interactions they've covered--it's AMAZING. And it's still technically a work in progress. I heard it was very clearly the model for Diablo, but because it's simpler graphics, it's probably significantly deeper. AtariDude #11 Posted July 17, 2004 Hey, given all your other interests, what do you feel about NetHack and its precursor Rogue? I don't think I ever played NetHack but I do remember playing Rogue on my Atari ST. That was a fun game although I had to take precautions (write protect the disk) to keep some of my better games from getting ruined due to the game setting of deleting saved games when your character died. Albert #12 Posted July 17, 2004 I love dungeon crawls! I've played tons of Nethack, as well as Rogue and I remember spending a lot of time with Moria as well! And of course all the graphical dungeon crawls, like Dungeon Master on the ST, and perhaps Alternate Reality on the 8-bit could also be considered a dungeon crawl (certainly Alternate Reality: The Dungeon!) I haven't yet played some of the more modern takes on this genre, such as Morrowind and Sacred, but I will eventually. ..Al
Dones #13 Posted July 17, 2004 There's an old PC (and later ported to PS1) game called Darkstone that might just be what the original poster is looking for. The game a diablo clone with 3D graphics. It wasn't popular when it came out but it isn't crap either. You can still find it in discount bins at some stores.
cryptik76 #14 Posted July 18, 2004 There's an old PC (and later ported to PS1) game called Darkstone that might just be what the original poster is looking for. Yeah, Darkstone is sweet! Well, it's not quite as sweet now as it was in 1999, but it's still pretty good. And it's really cheap, if you can find it.
keilbaca #15 Posted July 18, 2004 Neverwinter nights is D&D 3.0 rules but graphics. Recommended.
Cybergoth #16 Posted August 31, 2004 Hi there! Well, well, meanwhile I bought Neverwinter Nights! Can't wait to play it! Say, did anyone here ever try any Siegelets for Dungeon Siege? Greetings, Manuel
The Historian #17 Posted August 31, 2004 "Dungeon Siege: Legends of Arana" is a nice change of pace as is the few total conversions for it out there... Of course I'm totally biased when it comes to DS...
2600Lives #18 Posted September 1, 2004 It's an older game, but I highly recommend the Record of Lodoss War for the Dreamcast. VERY excellent Diablo clone, and with a decent storyline to boot. Tons of enemies on screen at once, too. For true duneon crawls, though, I go way back and get stuff like Dungeon Magic and Swords and Serpents out. Hehe. Nothing like the pseudo 3-D graphics and unbelievable difficulty!
Cybergoth #19 Posted September 1, 2004 Hi there! "Dungeon Siege: Legends of Arana" is a nice change of pace as is the few total conversions for it out there... Here's a source for siegelets I found Dungeon Siege Siegelets would you recommend one of these in particular? Greetings, Manuel
cryptik76 #20 Posted September 2, 2004 I'd love to make a Dungeon Siege mod that takes the fighting system from Blade & Sword (a nice little 2D Diablo clone from China) but with a more open-ended world and obviously the 3D engine from Dungeon Siege. Blade & Sword was cool because of its fighting system. Instead of just click click click on an enemy until he dies, B&S has blocking, dodging, various combo attacks to learn, and some throwing weapons. The only things that really keep it down are its Diablo-era graphics and the fact that it follows Diablo II's system way too closely. If someone were to bring that into the Dungeon Siege tech, I'd be a very happy man.
Aaron #21 Posted September 2, 2004 Well, if you want a dungeon crawl, nothing really beats Linley's Dungeon Crawl. Somewhat similar to NetHack, but much more fun IMO. I'm in the middle of a game right now...

Here's a source for siegelets I found Dungeon Siege Siegelets would you recommend one of these in particular? Greetings, Manuel Well... there is Planet Dungeon Siege. It has the largest community and is the longest running DS fan site out there. And it holds a secret truth about me. And of course there is also the Siege Works site which is run by one of the the developers specifically to help the DS mod community. This will be where you can learn to MODs and DS2 once it rolls out..
