joshua #1 Posted July 16, 2004 just had a monitor problem happen with a game i recently bought, it worked flawlessly and then suddenly part of the screen is no longer visible. i'm guessing one of the capacitors controlling the vertical hold has blown. anyone have a similar problem as this? can this be easily repaired? can you replace the monitor board without replacing the monitor itself? here is a pic of the symptom:
Nukey Shay #2 Posted July 16, 2004 Luckily, Search And Rescue uses Jamma+ hardware, so somebody has bound to have had this specific effect happen before. Try posting at arcadecontrols.com if nobody here knows.
Susuwatari #3 Posted July 16, 2004 It may not be the capacitror but rather a transistor. In many of the TV and monitor I've fixed, many used 2 transistor in push-pull configuration to provide horizontal sweep. Also loose wire or cracked solder could cause problem but not likely as there's still partial video. If you know the model of the monitor, put that in google and see if a repair or troubleshootingf guide pops up. Take care, a typical monitor of that size may have around 30-40,000 volts. Be thankful it's not a projection system, that's like 80Kv.
