Rocko #1 Posted July 16, 2004 Which one did you want when they came out? Which one did you think was better (games, power, not price...) I am curious because they are both similar, but still different.
christianscott27 #2 Posted July 16, 2004 saturn, no contest. the 3DO just didnt know what it wanted to be and had too many "dad" titles. you cant igonore develper support and quality titles, saturn wins that by a mile.
ultravi0let #3 Posted July 16, 2004 i so wonted the 3DO to have more than a few good games for it at the time. so i brought a Jaguar instead
PaulEMoz #4 Posted July 16, 2004 I had absolutely no interest in the 3DO. I bought a Saturn pretty early on though. How I loved my Saturn....it's nice to own one again.
Lemmi #5 Posted July 16, 2004 i wanted the 3DO after seeing the 30min long infomercial late one night, but the price was about $600 to much ($699 when they hit the shelves) 90% of my mid modern/modern collection came after 1996, and it started with the sega CD, then the 3DO Goldstar, then the Jaguar, then Saturn
TuzenTCA #6 Posted July 17, 2004 SATURN, I own three. One Black Round Buttons, One Black Oval Buttons, One Blue and Grey oval Buttons.
cimerians #7 Posted July 17, 2004 I wanted the Saturn. Later I had both systems and today I have only one the Saturn. Does anyone know the different types of 3do's and what they are all worth? Not much I'm guessing...
Rocko #8 Posted July 17, 2004 What are some good games for each system? I have noticed that the 3do has lots of Shooters and FMV games, and the Saturn more anime games.
ussexplorer #9 Posted July 17, 2004 I was really pushing for a 3DO but was not interested in either because of price. The main reason I was pushing for the 3DO is it was mfg by different companies. I was preying for the end of different games on different consoles. I was so feed up with 1/2 the games on nintendo and the other half on sega. I figured that each company could put in unique features to the console but keep the games compatible. So 3DO was 3DO no matter what. Then it would expand from their. later, ussexplorer
Lemmi #10 Posted July 17, 2004 I wanted the Saturn. Later I had both systems and today I have only one the Saturn. Does anyone know the different types of 3do's and what they are all worth? Not much I'm guessing... the systems by itself panasonic 3do FZ-1 - (this is the first one) these still fetch a nice price, probably around $30, and $40 to $256 with games the 256 i quoted was for a lot with 73 games tho panasonic 3do FZ-10 - (last one made flip top style) $40 to $70 depending on how many games are with it, system by itself again around $25 to $35 Goldstar 3DO (the middle one released by Goldstar) - this is the cheapest of the systems, but only because other people have heard of problems with the system, ive had 3 in my possession over the years and never had 1 problem, most of the auctioned goldstars on ebay have gone unsold in the last month, because one guy has a ton of them and he wants $59.95 for just the system I own all the US released games for the 3DO (and a few adult jap titles), and its usually the games that drive the price of the systems up i bet i could put up a goldstar 3do with a complete Dinopark Tycoon (one of the hardest to find 3do games) and the system would sell for over $150 - i paid $175 for the game (mint) i posted in this thread http://www.atariage.com/forums/viewtopic.p...light=3do+games with links to other 3do threads
liveinabin #11 Posted July 17, 2004 The Saturn was a wonderful games machine. I don't see what these two have in common here.

I've always liked the Goldstar, probably because it was the first 3do i bought, i have never had my FZ-1 set up, i used the goldstar for a couple years, then i got a brand new FZ-10 from media play for $37, and its been set up ever since i guess the FZ-1 just doesnt appeal to me, which is kind of odd as it was the first one i ever saw in that infomercial this is the goldstar system i want tho its the all Grey UK version of the Goldstar
Mr_8bit_16bit #14 Posted July 18, 2004 I have both, and I can say that in my opinion, the Saturn is better, neither in my opinion can compete game wise with the PS1 or in terms of 3D capabilities, but I think the Saturn actually ekes PS1 out in 2D applications. In terms of 3D with the Sat vs. 3DO, the 3DO actually seems to be capable of rendering smoother textures than the Saturn, but the Saturn moves a hell of a lot faster and fluidly than the 3DO, and seems to be the more capable overall in 2D and 3D mediums... and while Sat's game collection pales in comparison to PS1's, I think it absolutley stomps 3DO.... but 3DO had an awesome version of "Out of this World" and I really liked the music in 3DO's version of Doom... Still, the only thing the 3DO has to it's advantage are the honor of being the first true blue, full bull 32 bit console in the US (by my reckoning, it's the 1st system of the modern era) and of course it's geeky coolness of being an obscure system (I didn't mean that offensively, remember that I have one too!) otherwise all hats off to Saturn. The 3DO was more expensive cause it was the first real thing of it's kind.... the Saturn, while improving with the times, does not have that honor. Rocko #15 Posted July 19, 2004 .... but 3DO had an awesome version of "Out of this World" and I really liked the music in 3DO's version of Doom... Is Out of This World like Flashback on the Jag? They look pretty close.

They look pretty close. Out of this World and Flashback are on multiple systems (Genesis, SNES, Jag, 3DO, etc). They are similar games (distant sequels if I recall) with the exception being that Flashback has a more advanced graphics engine as opposed to the blockier models used in
+Random Terrain #17 Posted July 19, 2004 We bought a 3DO because of the price and because it had some cool games that other systems didn't seem to have like Star Control 2. Order of systems bought: Atari 2600 NES SNES 3DO Playstation One XBox
oesii #18 Posted July 19, 2004 I think the Saturn is better, better games library and a better system overall. That said, I have a much bigger 3DO collection I don't know why people put the FZ-1 down, that thing is built like a tank and looks great on the shelf. The top-loaders all have that cheap SegaCD feel to them.

Keep the FZ-1, seems to be built better and like you said stackability is important for our group. I have a N64 atop of mine But since the N64 is all curvy that tower of systems is only two high
Lastblade #20 Posted July 19, 2004 I bought the 3DO because that came out first. Road Rash sold me, and Need For Speed was incredible (still the best IMO). But honestly, Saturn (esp imports) have so many more enjoyable and incredible games.
Trip_Cannon #21 Posted July 19, 2004 Saturn had a lot of great 3d games. Did 3DO have anything like, say, Panzer Dragoon?

Mr_8bit_16bit #24 Posted July 23, 2004 Flashback is a pretty cool game. I have the CD-i version. I used to have 3DO's Out of this world, but it was lost in my one and only personal experience as the victim of a burglary in Apr 03 (ironically, nothing but video game stuff was taken.) I'll replace it eventually.
Godzilla #25 Posted July 24, 2004 well just before the 3do died, when it finally had a bunch of awesome games out and was inexpensive and the saturn didnt really have a lot of titles, I would have gone with a 3do. But then it died and Saturn had all that time to crank out a 3do killing game library. Pretty much everything 'studio 3do' made kicked ass. Need for speed on the 3do is STILL my favorite playing race game of all time. I'll never forget the one time I got the lamborghini to land on it's nose and spin, standing straight up like a giant top. It never came down. and the one time I jumped three cars... and the and the... Love the draw distance on that game too. Star Control 2 is the best rpg I've ever played, and the best head to head game I've ever played, all in one. and the 3do version is MILES better than the pc version. Po'ed is -still- my favorite one player first person shooter. Lost Eden is -still- my favorite myst type 3d puzzle game (that also happens to turn into a great tactical war game later on :-) ) anyway, I ramble...
