Dreamcast Emulation Help

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I just read another post about Dreamcast Emulation, and was wondering if someone could give me a little help. I saw where yall posted to get the emulators and games, but I don't understand how to run, work, or play the system on my computer much less the Dreamcast itself. I downloaded NesterDC for starters but it was not the right file I reckon? I downloaded the SBI file and it did not do crap on my computer. I also was wondering how I am supposed to get all this to the Dreamcast? Do I need a CD burner; I have a couple so I ain't in trouble there. If no one wants to explain all this to me, then could someone please direct me to a site where I can find out to do this deal right. I can't seem to find a readme anywhere so if anyone helps I appreciate it!

Thanks Again,

James

Yes, you need a burner. And it will not read CD-RW disks, so buy a spindle of the cheapest CD-Rs you can find until you've figured it out.

The general overview of the process is, you have to burn a spacer track of 4 minutes audio, figure out what the number of the next block is (it may be off by 2, depending on burner and software), then build the data image using that number and burn it as the second track. That data image will need something called "IP.BIN" merged into it after mkisofs and before burning. There is also a file usually called "1ST_READ.BIN", which must be scrambled (not encrypted, just scrambled) to be loadable. Usually it's pre-scrambled when you download it.

I suggest you start with http://www.dcemulation.com/ for info.
